At past midnight, We buried a body
It was an unusual weekday. We went out and came home way too late.
It was past midnight and my usual parking spot was occupied, so I drove past the house to park next to the mosque. But I changed my mind, thought the other parking space was closer.
Took the same road back, and that’s when I saw what I never wanted to see. A feline baby’s body crushed against the hard pavement.
S**t. S**t. S**t.
That’s all I said. Half nervous that I might have been the culprit. We ran to where he/she was lying. The blood was all dried up, she might have been there for hours.
It was heartbreaking, picking up pieces of a once bouncy little kitty. Just yesterday I asked for a kiss before offering a meal, and she approached with a sniff. Now all we can offer is a grave.
Realization dawned on me. Had it been a usual weekday, we would have been home before the tragedy. We wouldn’t have seen the body. We wouldn’t have been able to bury. We might still wait for her in the same spots she stay.
We really are where we’re supposed to be. It was a sad and tragic day. But we’re still thankful that it was an unusual weekday.
