Story Lines – A living narrative of Abu Dhabi and its people.

“My journey with the sea began 55 years ago. I mastered diving, fishing, and trade, but the sea is vast, full of risks and lessons.”

Yousuf Ahmad Talib Al Alai, a Nokhadha (ship captain), spent his life diving for pearls and navigating the unknown. From training boys at age seven to holding his breath for 200 counts, and facing sharks and storms, his story reflects courage, patience, and a deep love for heritage.

After retirement, he built a museum in his home in Baniyas to preserve the past, land and sea together because, as he says:

"Today's generation must pay attention to these achievements and preserve them. They must know the value of their fathers, their grandparents, and their past. The present came after fatigue, so it must continue and develop, and not care about appearances.

Story Lines – A living narrative of Abu Dhabi and its people.

Nasim Al Majid, artist, mother, and founder of RFLCT for Creative Arts in Abu Dhabi.

"I advise people to always work. I am 65 years old, but I still participate in exhibitions, I work, I make paintings, I cook, I take care of my children, and I raise my grandchildren. I do not sit idle. Work is necessary for everyone. Everyone has a future with their family.“

Art has been part of Nasim’s life since she was five. From drawing on schoolbooks to learning how to sew and stitch, her creativity never stopped, not after marriage, not while raising her children. She kept going, making art a part of daily life.
She’s ambitious, creative, and patient. "Art requires patience… If you're not patient, you won’t be able to do anything beautiful."

With her daughter, she opened RFLCT for Creative Arts, a space in Khalifa City, Al Ain, and Abu Dhabi Mall, where people as young as 4 can learn sewing, crochet, mosaic, and more.

In this powerful story, Nasim reminds us that creativity, like resilience, is a lifelong companion, one that grows with us, shapes us, and connects generations.
