63 YEARS LOST: A UAE FAMILY’S UNBROKEN HOPE

When the MV Dara passenger liner exploded off the coast of Dubai in April 1961, five-year-old Amin vanished in the tragic chaos, leaving his family to mourn a loss that spanned decades.

Now, a newly uncovered archival photograph showing a rescued child on a Bahrain-bound vessel suggests Amin survived the disaster and was raised by a local family in the Gulf, completely unaware of his real heritage.

His family is now searching for a man around 70 years old who was taken in by guardians in Bahrain or the GCC following the April 1961 shipwreck.

Shoppers at Abu Dhabi’s Mushrif Mall got the surprise of a lifetime when UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan made an unannounced visit to LuLu Hypermarket. Accompanied by LuLu Group Chairman Yusuff Ali, Sheikh Mohamed walked through the aisles, warmly greeting, shaking hands, and taking time to chat with delighted residents and staff members.

Eligible Indian passport holders can get a complimentary 30-day UAE tourist visa when booking a qualifying Abu Dhabi holiday. To be eligible, travellers must fly from India, book at least three nights in Abu Dhabi, travel between August 1 and October 31, 2026, and book through a participating travel partner or online travel agency.

The offer is limited to 20,000 visas, with potential savings of around Dh285 in visa fees.
