Mutton Curry Recipe 😋
Here’s a recipe for a delicious, aromatic mutton curry that you can make at home. It's packed with spices and flavor—perfect for a hearty meal with rice or naan.
Ingredients
For marination:
500g mutton (goat or lamb, cut into pieces)
2 tbsp yogurt (plain)
1 tsp turmeric powder
1 tsp red chili powder
1 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
1 tsp salt
For curry:
3 tbsp oil (vegetable or mustard oil works well)
2 medium onions (finely sliced)
2 medium tomatoes (chopped)
2 green chilies (slit)
1 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
1 tsp red chili powder
1 tsp coriander powder
1 tsp cumin powder
1/2 tsp garam masala powder
2-3 whole cloves
1 small cinnamon stick
2-3 cardamom pods
1 bay leaf
1/2 cup water (adjust as needed)
Salt to taste
Fresh coriander leaves (chopped, for garnish)
Instructions
1. Marinate the mutton:
In a bowl, mix the mutton pieces with yogurt, turmeric, chili powder, ginger-garlic paste, and salt.
Cover and let it marinate for at least 30 minutes (or overnight for better flavor).
2. Prepare the curry:
Heat oil in a large pan or pressure cooker over medium heat.
Add whole spices: cloves, cinnamon, cardamom, and bay leaf. Sauté for 30 seconds until aromatic.
Add sliced onions and cook until golden brown.
Stir in ginger-garlic paste and cook for 1-2 minutes until the raw smell disappears.
Add chopped tomatoes and green chilies. Cook until the tomatoes are soft and the oil starts to separate.
Mix in turmeric, chili powder, coriander powder, and cumin powder. Sauté the spices for 1-2 minutes.
3. Cook the mutton:
Add the marinated mutton to the pan and stir well to coat it with the spices.
Cook on medium heat for 8-10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the mutton changes color and releases some juices.
4. Add water and cook:
Add 1/2 cup of water (adjust for desired gravy consistency) and salt to taste.
Cover and simmer on low heat for 45-50 minutes until the mutton is tender. Alternatively, pressure cook for 3-4 whistles.
5. Finish with garam masala:
Once the mutton is cooked, stir in garam masala powder and simmer for another 5 minutes.
6. Garnish and serve:
Garnish with fresh coriander leaves.
Serve hot with steamed rice, naan, or paratha.
Enjoy your flavorful and satisfying mutton curry! Let me know how it turns out. 😊
