TCEB hosts event aimed at winning back lucrative Chinese events business

Thailand has held an event aimed at restoring confidence in the country among the Chinese meeting planners.

The Thailand Convention & Exhibition Bureau (TCEB) hosted the “Thailand CONNECT The World: China MICE Commemorative Dinner 2015″ event in an effort to reassure the Chinese MICE sector in the wake of last month’s bombing in Bangkok.

TCEB has already outlined a series of measures to improve security for large MICE groups, including police escorts and venue security. It is also tempting MICE groups back to the country with a series of new packages.

The Chinese event was hosted in partnership with the Ratchaprasong Square Trade Association (RSTA), a group of venues and hoteliers in the Ratchaprasong area of Bangkok, where the bomb exploded.

“TCEB… would like to use the occasion to present a specially-packaged promotion from TCEB in collaboration with our partner, the Ratchaprasong Square Trade Association or RSTA, to Chinese business events stakeholders. This very special event also serves as a vital platform for us to provide update on the MICE situation in Thailand, while further strengthen the awareness of Thailand’s business events industry among the media in China,” said Parichat Svetasreni, director of TCEB’s marketing & corporate image department.

“TCEB… will be offering China’s MICE visitors a specially-packaged promotion, the ‘Thailand CONNECT Welcome Package’… providing recipients with special hotel and retail discounts, as well as other benefits, right in the heart of vibrant Bangkok downtown,” she added.

The new MICE packages include F&B and spa discounts from several hotels and retail outlets.

China is Thailand’s top MICE source market, with more than 120,000 Chinese business travellers visiting the country in 2014, contributing THB10.6 billion (US$301 million) to the Thai economy. TCEB reports that from October 2014 to June 2015, a total of 71,462 Chinese business events visitors travelled to Thailand, generating THB6.28bn.
