As parents and parent-teachers, we are not just shaping our children’s minds but also nurturing their hearts. In times like these, when our country faces the harsh realities of earthquakes, typhoons, fires, and other calamities, it’s important to remember that our children are watching, listening, and feeling everything too.
When disaster strikes or uncertainty looms, children may experience fear, confusion, or even anxiety. These emotions are natural and valid, and as their anchors, it’s our role to:
💬 Listen to their fears without dismissing them.
🧡 Reassure them that it’s okay to feel scared or unsure.
🎯 Help them process their emotions by giving them space to express what they’re feeling—through words, art, or play.
Acknowledging their emotions doesn’t mean we give in to fear—it means we teach them how to face it.
🛠️ How Can We Help Them Process Fear?
1️⃣ Be Honest Yet Gentle: Explain what’s happening in a way they can understand, without overwhelming them with unnecessary details.
2️⃣ Reassure Them of Safety: Highlight the steps you’re taking as a family to stay prepared and safe during emergencies.
3️⃣ Teach Them to Pray: Encourage them to bring their fears to God, reminding them that He cares about every detail of their lives.
4️⃣ Be a Model of Faith: Show them that even though the world feels uncertain, your trust is in the One who is unshaken.
Despite the challenges we face, let’s hold on to this truth: God is in control. He is the Creator who holds the universe in the palm of His hands, and no storm, quake, or fire is too great for Him.
💖 Be the calm in their storm. Be their guide through fear.
