“When something goes wrong in somebody’s life and they say, 'Why me?' It’s quite simple, Why not me?” Joost Van Der Westhuizen’s words often echo in my head in times of trouble.

Having seen the heartbreaking stories and videos surrounding Eric Dane’s sad passing to MND, and with everyone scrambling for Rugby World Cup tickets, I could not help but be reminded of a documentary we started making 15 years back about the legendary South African rugby player, Joost Van Der Westhuizen - who also died of MND. One of the most inspirational people I’ve ever met; his strength and tenacity on the rugby field, was dwarfed by the way he faced MND.

The film never came into fruition for variety of reasons. But you can watch the Pitch Film in all its unfinished glory on our YouTube channel . Hope you enjoy - Phil Griffiths, Director
