🔥 Deep in the Pacific Ocean, about 1,800 meters down where it is completely dark, scientists saw a bright blue flash near an underwater mountain in the Galápagos. 🐙💙

This tiny octopus was the size of a golf ball, had short arms, and was bright blue against the dark sand. Scientists found it in 2015 near Darwin Island using a robot vehicle from a research ship called Nautilus.

After years of studying it and comparing it to other museum specimens, scientists confirmed it was a brand-new species.
They named it Microeledone galapagensis after the islands.

This discovery surprised scientists because this little octopus lives much deeper and in warmer tropical waters than other similar octopuses.

This tiny creature, small enough to fit in a hand, had stayed hidden in the deep sea for generations.

How much of nature is still left to discover. 🌊

Slithering across the warm waters of the Indo-Pacific, this striking nudibranch (Nembrotha kubaryana) captivates divers worldwide with its dark velvety body covered in brilliant neon-green spots and vibrant margins. 🥰

Those elegant, feather-like structures on its back aren't just for show—they are gills, while the smooth horns up front (rhinophores) help it track chemical scents and movement across the seabed.

✨ Fun Fact: Sporting warning colors known as aposematism, this striking marine gastropod grows up to 12 centimeters long and uses bright neon patterns to broadcast a clear warning to hungry predators!

✨ They are fascinating hermaphrodites!
Like many sea slugs, they possess both male and female reproductive organs, allowing them to mate and ensure the continuation of their vibrant species on the reef. 💕

✨ Dark velvet on the outside, chemical defense on the inside!

At a glance they look like a work of abstract art, but their primary diet consists of colonial sea squirts (tunicates). They absorb the toxins from these meals and store them in their tissues to release a defensive, unpalatable mucus when threatened! 🧽✨

Moray eels can bite, and their bites are dangerous because they have sharp, backward-pointing teeth and a second set of jaws in their throats that lock onto prey.

They do not hunt humans, but they will bite to defend themselves or if they mistake a hand for food during hand-feeding.

Symptoms of a Bite Heavy bleeding and deep cuts or puncture marks.Severe, immediate pain.Swelling and potential tissue loss.Nerve or tendon damage in severe cases.
