Tรผrkiye has ๐น๐ท criticized Israelโs decision to recognize Somaliland as an independent and sovereign country, describing the move as a violation of international law and an intervention in Somaliaโs internal affairs.
In a statement issued by the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ankara said Israelโs recognition of Somaliland constituted an unlawful step โ๏ธ that could undermine regional stability ๐. The ministry accused the Israeli government of pursuing policies that risk creating instability at both regional and global levels.
Tรผrkiye reaffirmed its support for Somaliaโs territorial integrity and sovereignty ๐ธ๐ด, stating that decisions concerning the future of Somalia and the Somaliland region should be made in a manner that reflects the will of all Somalis. Ankara emphasized that it would continue to stand by Somalia and support peace ๐๏ธ and security efforts in the Horn of Africa.
๐ธ๐ด Somaliland Responds
In response, Somaliland authorities rejected Tรผrkiyeโs position, saying it was inappropriate for Ankara to lecture on Somaliaโs internal affairs while ignoring what they described as "๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐ ๐๐ ๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐ ๐บ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐
" ๐ณ๏ธ.
In a statement shared on social media, Somaliland said its future must be decided by Somalilanders themselves โ not by external powers speaking on behalf of Mogadishu. The statement called for respect for sovereignty and self-determination, principles it said should guide genuine international partnerships.
Somaliland also said the situation should prompt authorities in Hargeisa to reassess the purpose and presence of the Turkish office operating in the territory, arguing that "๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐
๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐
๐๐๐๐๐
๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐
๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐".
Israel ๐ฎ๐ฑ earlier this week on Saturday, December 26, 2025 announced that it has officially recognized Somaliland, a self-declared state that separated from Somalia in 1991 and has since maintained its own government, security forces, and democratic institutions, despite lacking broad international recognition.
The exchange highlights growing diplomatic tensions โ ๏ธ surrounding Somalilandโs status, as regional and international reactions continue to emerge following Israelโs recognition.
