THE DOWNFALL OF NIMBO

Part 7: The Land is Taken

As disorder increased within Nimbo, the neighboring kingdom that had once feared Ogbuagu began paying close attention.

Their warriors remembered the mysterious lake that had stopped their ancestors.

They remembered the strange stories that surrounded Nimbo.

But now the stories were changing.

Merchants traveling between communities reported rising crime.

Visitors spoke of confusion among the elders.

Some even claimed that Ogbuagu no longer lived in Nimbo.

The neighboring king decided to test the rumors.

Scouts were sent to the border.

They crossed safely.

Nothing happened.

More scouts followed.

Still nothing happened.

Then came the warriors.

Hundreds of them marched toward disputed lands near the border.

The people of Nimbo watched in horror.

For years they had relied on the invisible protection of Ogbuagu.

Now they were forced to defend themselves.

The village youths assembled with spears and machetes.

But they were poorly organized.

Many had never fought a battle before.

The neighboring warriors advanced steadily.

Field after field was seized.

Entire farming settlements fell under foreign control.

Families abandoned their homes.

Women and children fled toward the center of Nimbo.

The defeat was devastating.

The elders gathered in emergency meetings.

Arguments filled the palace.

Some blamed the king.

Others blamed the villagers.

Some blamed the younger generation.

Finally, they consulted seers from different regions.

Each seer gave the same answer.

“The spirit that protected Nimbo no longer dwells among you.”

The words struck the community like thunder.

For the first time, many people realized the full weight of what had been lost.

But the damage had already begun.

And it would only grow worse.

THE DOWNFALL OF NIMBO

Part 6: The Beginning of the Curse

The first month after Ogbuagu left Nimbo seemed normal.

Nothing unusual happened.

The villagers mocked those who had predicted disaster.

“Where is the calamity?” they asked.

“We are richer than ever.”

But evil often arrives quietly.

The first sign appeared in the farms.

Several farmers discovered strange charms buried beneath their crops.

Before, such things would never have survived a single night in Nimbo.

Now they remained untouched.

Soon livestock began disappearing.

Then armed robbers started attacking travelers returning from neighboring markets.

The crimes became more frequent.

A young hunter named Obinna was murdered on a forest path.

His killer was known by many villagers.

Yet nothing happened.

Days passed.

Weeks passed.

Months passed.

The murderer continued walking freely through the community.

People became afraid.

For generations, everyone had believed that Ogbuagu would punish such evil.

Now the punishment never came.

The wicked became bold.

Secret cults emerged.

Sorcerers who had once fled Nimbo slowly returned.

Witches who had abandoned the community years earlier came back under the cover of darkness.

The atmosphere of peace that once defined Nimbo began to disappear.

Fear settled over the land.

At the same time, reports began arriving from Chief Nwora’s kingdom.

The land there was flourishing.

Harvests doubled.

Trade expanded.

Children were born into households that had long been barren.

Chief Nwora’s wealth multiplied beyond imagination.

Many people began whispering.

“It seems the blessings followed Ogbuagu.”

The realization slowly spread through Nimbo like a sickness.

The guardian was gone.

And so were its blessings.

THE DOWNFALL OF NIMBO

Part 5: The Sale of Ogbuagu

News of Ogbuagu’s abandonment spread far beyond Nimbo.

Among those who heard the story was a wealthy nobleman named Chief Nwora from a distant kingdom.

Chief Nwora was not an ordinary man.

He was rich, influential, and deeply interested in spiritual matters.

When he learned that the legendary guardian of Nimbo had been neglected, he became curious.

“If the stories are true,” he said, “then such a power should not be left to waste.”

After months of investigation, he arrived in Nimbo with gifts, servants, and bags of silver.

He requested a meeting with King Ezemuo.

The meeting lasted several days.

At first, the king refused to discuss the matter.

But Chief Nwora was patient.

Each day he increased his offer.

More silver.

More gold.

More cattle.

More land.

The amount became so enormous that many elders could hardly believe their ears.

Soon the discussion spread throughout the community.

Some elders opposed the idea.

Elder Nnaji stood before the council and warned them.

“You cannot sell the shield that protects your home.”

But others laughed.

“What shield?” they asked.

“The chief priest is dead.”

“The shrine is abandoned.”

“The deity no longer works.”

“Let us take the money.”

After several weeks of arguments, the king made his decision.

The deity would be sold.

The announcement shocked a few people but excited many others.

On the day Ogbuagu was removed from Nimbo, a strange wind blew across the community.

Dark clouds gathered overhead despite the clear season.

Birds flew from the sacred forest in large numbers.

Many elderly women wept openly.

Some claimed they heard distant cries coming from the direction of the shrine.

But nobody paid attention.

The people were too busy celebrating the wealth that had entered the community.

The money was shared among elders, youths, families, and village leaders.

For many days, there was feasting and celebration.

People praised the king for bringing prosperity.

Meanwhile, Ogbuagu was carried away to Chief Nwora’s kingdom.

As the deity disappeared beyond the horizon, Elder Nnaji sat beneath the ancient Udala tree and cried.

He knew something the others did not.

Nimbo had just sold more than a deity.

It had sold its protection.
