It was a late November Thursday evening.
Winter had just begun, yet the cold was already settling in.
She was eager to meet the one who had once again occupied her thoughts.
How would he be?
Would he be gentle?
Would he bring the spark?
She saw him looking for her.
She waved, even making fun of the conversation they’d had over text before meeting.
His smile stretched wide, and she loved it.
He was warm, a gentle listener.
She was exactly how she had sounded in the texts —
high on energy, wrapped in a warm smile.
Time flew by, he realised.
She had a small, beautiful nose; he couldn’t stop staring at it.
She kept pulling her T-shirt down, as if it felt too short.
They spoke endlessly
she being her true self.
Not revealing inch by inch,
but revealing the whole of her at once.
He told her his story,
and she listened with earnest eyes.
Little did she know he was weighing every word she spoke.
Soon, they began meeting almost every day
at the beach, by the sea, near the waterways,
sometimes just roaming around in the car.
Just meeting and sharing stories was enough for them.
They spoke for hours, as though they had known each other for years.
What was it?
Acquaintance, love, or something unnamed?
To be continued.
