Lagos launches digital addressing system for house numbering.
Lagos State government on Tuesday launched a digital addressing system to ensure ease of business, create more access to critical services and improve revenue for the state.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on e-GIS and Urban Development, Dr Babatunde Olajide said the digital addressing system, also known as the Lagos Identifier Programme, which would formally become operational by July 1, would help in different sectors including housing, transportation, e-cab hailing service, security, emergency response, taxation and planning.
He said the technology had not only made Lagos a smart state, but it would have a real-life impact on people and the governmentโs ability to respond to residentsโ needs.
Olajide, who stated that the system would come into effect on July 1 in the Ikeja Local Government, said that state agencies would collaborate with their technical partner to produce and install digital house numbers.
He stated that the project cannot come at a better time, noting that if the Lagos State government gets it right, other states will use it a case student to adopt.

Olajide further said that Ikeja has 23,000 properties that would be numbered with the kick-off of the project. He added that the state government will move into other local councils within the state gradually after completing the project in the Ikeja Local Council.
โWe are advising all property that has been subdivided to come forward for identification,โ he said.
A technical partner, Mr Yinka Adesiyan, explained that every street and house would have its name and number embedded in barcodes, with various information accessible to residents by scanning the codes
