Pakistanis remained the largest nationality claiming asylum on sexual-orientation grounds in the UK between 2020 and 2023, according to Home Office statistics.
In 2020, the UK recorded 1,012 asylum applications in which sexual orientation formed part of the claim. By 2023, there were 1,377 such applications. Pakistani nationals accounted for 578 applications in 2023, representing 42% of all sexuality-based asylum claims, making Pakistan the largest nationality in this category for the sixth consecutive year.
