Legendary West Indies batsman and National Hero, Sir Vivian Richards, is encouraging national women’s cricketer, Shawnisha Hector, to approach the opportunity she has been given with confidence and determination.

Hector was recently named in a 15-member West Indies squad to compete at the 2026 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in England and Wales from June 5 to July 5.

The 2026 ABCA Super 40 Team of the Tournament perfectly reflects a season filled with experience, youth, consistency, and genuine match-winning quality from positions one through eleven.

Once again, New Winthorpes Lions showcased why they remain the gold standard in Antigua & Barbuda cricket. While many may point to the presence of West Indies fast bowler Alzarri Joseph, the Lions’ continued dominance is far from a one-man show. They are a well-oiled machine built on depth, structure, and players consistently stepping up in big moments.

Three Lions players earned selection to this year’s Team of the Tournament:
🏏 Tyrone Williams Jr. — who became the first batter in ABCA Super 40 history to score over 500 runs in a single season.
🏏 Demari Benta — whose all-round brilliance and consistency made him impossible to ignore.
🏏 Orandel Boston — whose exceptional bowling performances terrorized batting lineups throughout the competition.

Runners-up Empire Nation also had three outstanding representatives selected, all under the age of 23:
🔥 Tanez Francis
🔥 Micah McKenzie
🔥 Yannique Watley

Their inclusion highlights the exciting future of Antigua & Barbuda cricket and the emergence of a talented new generation capable of competing at the highest level.

Fast bowler Jawakie Joseph’s return to cricket was one of the stories of the tournament. After being sidelined for more than a year through injury, he made a remarkable comeback and immediately reminded everyone of his quality with several impactful performances despite the shortened season.

The ever-reliable Michael Greaves once again proved why consistency matters, while veteran campaigners Orlando Peters and Kerry Mentore added their experience and class to round out a formidable lineup.

The Most Valuable Player award deservedly went to Demari Benta, whose outstanding season with both bat and ball included one of the innings of the tournament — a thrilling 98 against the Liberta Blackhawks that showcased his power, composure, and ability to dominate attacks.

What an incredible time it was at Buss Ball 2026! 🏏🔥

Trophies, awards, rewards, prizes, and plenty of surprises were all distributed to our deserving winners on the day. Congratulations to everyone who participated and made the event truly special.

An incredible weekend of cricket came to a thrilling close with New Winthorpes Lions once again proving why they are the dominant force in Antigua & Barbuda cricket.

On Saturday, the Lions successfully defended their ABCA Super 40 title, dismantling Empire Nation by 113 runs in a commanding all-round performance to secure their second championship of the season.

The Lions’ batting unit fired throughout the innings. Tyrone Williams continued his rich vein of form with a classy 68 before tournament MVP Demari Benta stole the spotlight once again with a magnificent 83, securing the MVP title for the second consecutive year. Captain Nino Henry added the finishing touches with a blazing 40, taking a particular liking to leg-spinner Micah McKenzie, as the Lions posted an imposing 293 all out.

Ajharie Joseph was the standout bowler for Empire Nation, finishing with impressive figures of 4-55.

In response, Alzarri Joseph wasted little time making his presence felt, ripping through the Nation batting lineup. However, teenage batting sensation Tanez Francis displayed maturity beyond his years with a composed and elegant 62. With wickets falling regularly, Empire Nation struggled to build any meaningful partnerships, though Damian Lowenfield offered some resistance with 38.

Alzarri Joseph led the demolition with outstanding figures of 4-26. Remarkably, it may well be an ABCA first, with brothers Ajharie and Alzarri Joseph both claiming four-wicket hauls for opposing teams in the same match.

The victory further cements New Winthorpes Lions’ remarkable dominance in local cricket. They are also on a 16 match winning streak in the ABCA Super 40 with their last defeat in the 2024 ABCA Super 40 Final at Liberta. The club has now appeared in 6 consecutive ABCA and APL finals, including in three years:
• ABCA Super 40 Finals (2024, 2025 & 2026)
• Antigua Premier League T20 Finals (2025)
• ACB Caribbean Antigua Parish League Final (2025)
• ABCA Two-Day Final (2026)

Congratulations to New Winthorpes Lions — the team that has firmly taken over the mantle from Liberta Blackhawks as Antigua & Barbuda’s most dominant cricket club in the post-COVID era.

There are not many local players that can say they beat Alzarri Joseph's bowling but Hammerr can boast in that. Albeit, he got a few underarmers nevertheless it was great time at Celebrity Buss Ball.

Hammerr said he is a better cricketer that Dario!
