PRESS RELEASE: 16 Days of Activism against Gender Based Violence 2025 Campaign
The Ministry of Social Development and Education, through the Gender Affairs Unit (GAU), is pleased to announce Anguilla’s 2025 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence Campaign under the theme: Awareness to Action: Reshaping Culture, Ending the Cycle. The campaign will run from 25 November – 10 December 2025, aligning with the global observance that begins on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women (25 November) and concluding on Human Rights Day (10 December).
Building on last year’s efforts, this year’s theme recognises that raising awareness is only the first step. Real change demands that communities, institutions, families, and individuals turn awareness into concrete action; challenging harmful norms, strengthening systems of protection, and supporting survivors on their journey to healing and justice.
The 2025 campaign will officially open with the Orange Anguilla Rally on 25 November, hosted at the Ebenezer Methodist Chapel, in collaboration with the Department of Social Development, the Women’s Commission of the Methodist Church in the Caribbean and the Americas (MCCA) – Anguilla Circuit, and the Ebenezer Women’s Circle. The launch will feature reflections, performances, and messages of hope and solidarity, while highlighting the lived experiences of survivors and the responsibility of the wider community.
Throughout the 16 Days, the campaign will include; specialised training workshops on the Domestic Violence Act and effective policing responses to domestic violence (24–27 November), targeted at police officers and frontline responders; Community engagement activities to promote survivor-centred and zero-tolerance responses to violence; The Flow Young Girls Chat on issues such as digital violence, online safety, and healthy relationships and public education including social media features, interviews, and awareness messages encouraging community members to speak out and seek help.
Members of the public are encouraged to wear orange during the campaign period, particularly on 25 November, and to participate in the scheduled activities as a visible show of solidarity with survivors and a united stand against all forms of gender-based violence.
Anyone experiencing or witnessing domestic or gender-based violence is urged to seek help. Support is available through the Gender Affairs Unit, the Department of Social Development, the Royal Anguilla Police Force and other relevant agencies including the SAFE (Stop Abuse for Everyone) Hotline, Anguilla’s dedicated domestic violence helpline with 24/7 support available at the tollfree number 7233.
For the full line up of events, and updates on the 16 days of activism campaign, the public is encouraged to like and follow gender affairs via social platforms at Gender Affairs Unit Anguilla.
