MEET YOUR MENTOR:
Vera Zalutskaya is contemporary art curator, writer, cultural manager, and editor born in Belarus but lives and works in Warsaw. She holds degrees from the European Humanities University in Vilnius and the Jagiellonian University in Kraków.
Her research focuses on how decolonial and post-socialist thought can map shifting regimes of representation, attending to fluid identities, contested visibility, and the subtle image-operations through which subjectivity, belonging, and agency are produced and negotiated.
She was co-editor-in-chief of BLOK Magazine (2021–2024) and is a co-founder of MOST magazine (with Ewa Borysiewicz and Katie Zazenski). She serves as President of the
GESSEL Foundations for the National Museum in Warsaw (owning the XX and XXI century contemporary art collection deposed at MNW) and for Zachęta—National Gallery of Art
(awarding MA and PhD scholarships), and is a member of the Artistic Council of the Konrad and Paweł Jarodzki artist-in-residence programme (with Ruth Noack, Zbigniew Libera, and
Dorota Monkiewicz).
Since 2014, she has curated exhibitions and projects in Belarus, Belgium, Denmark, Poland, Serbia, Slovenia and Croatia, including at the Museum of
Modern Art in Warsaw (MSN), the Museum of Contemporary Art in Zagreb (MSU), Copenhagen Photo Festival, CPH:DOX, and M HKA Antwerp. She is a co-founder of the Identity Crisis Network, a research platform connecting artistic practices and discourses that challenge established notions of identity and subjectivity. She has taught at the Salzburg International Summer Academy of Fine Arts (with Małgorzata Mirga-Tas), the POST MA programme at the Art Academy of Latvia in Riga, the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, UL ALUO and SCCA–Ljubljana, and KU Linz.
The module led by Vera Zalutskaya for Art Writing and Criticism Program (AWCP) is supported by the Adam Mickiewicz Institute (IAM), which is co-financed by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage of the Republic of Poland.
