Would you buy a Rolex at the roadside?
Mumbai, February 2023. There it is. An absolute DREAMWATCH, a Rolex Daytona with Panda Dial. But not as you might think in the well-lit window of an officially licensed Rolex boutique. No! On the roadside on a towel laid out next to numerous other models that ... would they be real ... would certainly go into the millions. But come on ... 100 years warranty ... "original" plastic box and a handwritten certificate of authenticity are also there. And that for ONLY 4,000 rupees, the equivalent of about 45âŹ. An absolute bargain, if you consider that the original costs just under 15,000⏠and on the grey market a multiple.
So let's get back to my question. Would you buy a Rolex at the roadside? ... no? Me neither!
If you want to sell QUALITY, you can't expect to land the big fish with your "street stall". Your IMAGE, your APPEARANCE, and your brand must be "aligned" with the values of your target audience. Especially with high-priced products and services, the emotional buying decision is much more important than the rational one. You have to build trust, from the first impression and in the best case convince already there!
My favourite excuse: "I have a website anyway!", "Customers trust me because I am!" or even "Branding is just a matter of taste but doesn't bring me more business!" ...
Well. The clock on the side of the road looked a hell of a lot like the original, too. And hey. The Fake Louis bag will surely do next time.
We're talking about small details that make the difference in the end whether someone builds trust or not. Whether someone buys or not. HIGH TICKET buyers know the difference. And if YOU don't know, you are most likely not a HIGH TICKET buyer yourself - and how would you ever know what makes this target group tick?
Your IMAGE, your BRANDING is by far the most important aspect of your business or personal brand, as it ultimately determines whether a person will buy from you, or not. Effective & good branding helps you attract potential customers, retain current ones, and most importantly, FINALLY get the prices you've been wanting for years.
