A dear friend who is walking the road of cancer just recently posted this article and it was such a good reminder.
IF IT IS HIS WILL . . . BUT IF NOT, I SURRENDER STILL!
In II Samuel 15:25-26, David basically says, If it’s the Lord’s will, He will bring me back to be king but IF NOT, then I surrender to His will.
I am reminded of two other places where a similar sentiment is offered.
IN DANIEL 3, the three Hebrew men, soon to be tossed into the fiery furnace for refusing to worship the king’s idol, confidently stated, “. . . our God whom we serve IS ABLE TO DELIVER us from the burning fiery furnace, and HE WILL deliver us out of thine hand, O king. BUT IF NOT, be it known unto thee, O king, that WE WILL NOT serve thy gods nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up.” (Daniel 3:16b-18)
In other words, “If it is the Lord’s will, He will deliver us, but if not, we surrender to His will.”
In JOB 13, God’s tried servant, humbly replies, “Though He slay me, yet, will I trust in Him” (Job 13:15).
In other words, “If it is the Lord’s will, He will deliver me, but if not, I surrender to His will.”
In all of these situations, they indicate these thoughts,
“I KNOW my GOD,
I KNOW I can trust Him no matter what,
I KNOW He is good and faithful,
I KNOW He is able to deliver,
I KNOW He will determine my rescue
And I TRUST HIM to decide how that rescue will come.”
Yes, You are able, if it is Your will,
But, if not, I surrender still!
