Firewater - PBS FM

Firewater - PBS FM Firewater is on PBS 106.7FM between 5-7pm Tuesdays. www.pbsfm.org.au/firewater for playlists The show covers dirty rock n roll and southern influenced blues.

Claire Stuchbery plays swamp rock, which is a loose description for bands with beards essentially. Traversing the genres of alt country through to stone rock, Firewater plays anything that sounds a little bit swampy, a little bit dirty and has a chugging beat. There’s a lot of guitars in this two hours. From RL Burnside to Jeff The Brotherhood, The Black Keys to Downhills Home and Sharon Jones to Fu Manchu, Bass Drum of Death to Eileen Jewell. Firewater sounds rough, but is smooth on the ears.

draws to an end today. Last call for anybody who wants to support the station and (hopefully) win a prize - hit it πŸ‘‰ www.pbsfm.org.au

Thank-you so, so much to eveybody who has supported PBS 106.7FM Melbourne this year - whether it's for the first time or renewing. It really means a lot to me personally when people get around Firewater and it means a lot to the whole music ecosystem when you support the station. This is community in action and every single member makes it happen. We are greater than the sum of our parts.

I walked into PBS in 1996 and found a community of like-minded champions passionate about music. Some 30 years later I still love the connections we share through the music we love and the opportunity to share it on the radio. Look how happy I am about it! Here celebrating 45 years of Sunglasses After Dark in 2026 and presenting Drive Live in Easey St in 2020 (wish I still hadn't worn that tshirt out).

Truly grateful for your membership. πŸ™

Mediaweek describes community radio as the "unlikely powerhouse" of Australia's music industry. Surprising nobody who broadcasts at PBS 106.7FM Melbourne!

The findings of the Community Radio and Australian Music: Building the Music Media Ecosystem report released this week showing community radio music stations contribute more than $153 million annually to the Australian music industries and generate returns of up to $5.55, with a median return of $2.47 across high-intensity stations for every dollar invested. That's your dollar if you're a PBS member, by the way.

""Our findings prove that community radio is not just a broadcasting platform; it is the vital infrastructure holding up the broader Australian music industries,” Associate Professor Holman said." - Mediaweek

This week we're inviting the music-lovers to become card-carrying members of the community by becoming a member during . This vital piece of infrastructure that holds up the Australian music industry is funded through the original crowdfunding model - membership. If we all do our bit and sign up, we'll have a wild variety of tunes from all over the world on our radio year round - curated by passionate volunteers who spend hours and hours trawling through real and virtual crates to bring you the best in our genres.

The report highlights the role community broadcasters play in:
- discovering and championing emerging Australian artists
- supporting local live music scenes
- amplifying diverse Australian voices and genres
- creating pathways for artists and broadcasters
- connecting audiences with local music and culture generating income for artists, venue and events

And YOU, friends, make this possible through your membership.

I'll be on the radio from 5pm today playing some of my favourite Firewater style tunes - come join me, let's have some fun.
