Tyla Rodriguess - H***y Tonk Healing on the way to Groundwater Country Music Festival

WATCH VIDEO PODCAST HERE: https://youtu.be/oj6gZKcnhj4

A packed bar, a tiny country town, and a song that somehow pulls strangers to the middle of the room. That’s the feeling Tyla Rodrigues chases, and it’s the heartbeat of her latest single, “H***y Tonk Healing.” We jump on Zoom with the 22-year-old Australian country music artist to unpack how those early nights in pubs and local venues shaped her love of traditional country storytelling and that classic h***y tonk sound that makes you forget everything for a minute.

We also talk Groundwater Country Music Festival in Queensland, the free beach country music festival that keeps winning people over. Tyla explains why the vibe feels unmatched, why “country curious” listeners matter, and how returning each year feels like a family reunion with an all-killer lineup. If you’ve ever wondered how a festival can grow a scene, this is a real-world blueprint from someone living it.

From songwriting to big-stage momentum, Tyla shares how she learned to write by keeping it simple and honest, inspired by raw projects like The Marfa Tapes. Then we get into a career highlight that still feels surreal: an Amazon Original duet with US country artist Braxton Keith, how it came together organically, and why they both landed on the same No. 1 song choice. We zoom out even further into touring life, opening for Dylan Gossett, and the shock of finding huge country music crowds at CMA Fest in Nashville and C2C in Berlin and London.

UP DOWN UNDER - Lee Kernaghan

Join me for music, news, reviews, and interviews with some of our favourite Australian musicians, Saturday nights on Radio Adelaide 101.5FM 10pm till midnight or streaming live around Australia and the globe on your device

A country legend doesn’t happen by accident, and Lee Kernaghan is proof. We jump on Zoom with Lee to unpack the real origin story: a musical family, a dad who sang about trucks and life on the road, and years of scraping by with gigs wherever a crowd would listen. It’s the kind of Australian country music journey that’s equal parts hard work and heart, and it explains why his songs still feel like they’re written for real people, not playlists.

Plus we've got a mini concert Before Midnight featuring The Superjesus

Robbie Mortimer - From Farm Life to The Bend Classic - Cars Country & Camping Stage

WATCH VIDEO PODCAST HERE: https://youtu.be/Bv3YdvAM8L4

Country music in Australia didn’t just get bigger, it got bolder. I’m joined by Australian country rock artist Robbie Mortimer as we catch up before his trip to South Australia for the October long weekend at The Bend Classic - Cars Country Camping at Shell V-Power Motorsport Park in Tailem Bend.

Robbie’s story starts in country New South Wales, where loving country music used to earn you a bit of grief, and ends with packed festival crowds singing back lyrics that began as bedroom demos.

We get into the crossroads moments: growing up in a rugby league family, spending time in the younger grades with the Broncos, and realizing music was the thing that made him happiest. Robbie shares what it looks like to commit to the artist path, including the jobs he tried along the way, the touring grind, and the lesson that you don’t build a following by waiting for permission.

We also talk career highlights like performing on the PBR Professional Bull Riders tour, plus the creative side of the job, from music video concepts to using local friends and hometown locations to make something people actually want to share.

If you’re searching for an Australian country music festival experience that goes beyond the stage, this chat is for you. The Bend Classic weekend blends live country music with cars, racing, camping, BBQ competitions, cooking sessions, youth activities, and a family movie night, and Robbie explains why it truly “has something for everyone.”

Subscribe for more artist conversations, share this with a mate who needs a road trip, and leave a review so more people can find the show.

What's Robbie Mortimer up to at the moment? Let's find out!

Get out when you can, support local music and I'll see you down the front!!
