As a lacrosse lover this week you will find me at the Under 18 National Championships covering the socials for our club (Brighton Lacrosse Club) and doing all sorts of other volunteering duties! Is your Google Business Profile looking a little like this messy room? A little bit of this thrown here, a little bit of that thrown there? And what's the problem with that? At least I have a profile! Well yes, agreed! Better than nothing. But what if your profile was being seen more and you were getting more client enquiries because you decided to pick up the mess and get organising it? Today is my mum's birthday. It's been 3 (going on 4) years since we said goodbye and there's rarely a day I don't think about her. She successfully ran her own business sewing for people and running sewing classes. Mum could pretty much make anything! And I grew up with the words "Oh I could make that!" and so she often did! At times it felt frustrating but these were the 80's when there wasn't the range of clothing to just go out and buy and the quality of what mum made really was excellent (except for the sagging school bathers!!). What I loved about her was her dedication to us and her resourcefulness. She grew up in an era where money was very tight and things never got wasted. She thought nothing of going from shop to shop for the best bargains (hence she loved the printed junk mail!) and a fabric store that provided her with endless inspiration! I too caught the inspiration bug and would find myself imaging myself in a beautiful fabric. Mum made people feel seen. She would often sew for women who struggled to get clothes that fit them and it was a real delight for them to trust in her skills and they were delighted with what she created and made them feel wonderful in their own skin. What she didn't like was the crazy bridesmaid crowd who wanted to pay diddly squat to alter a crappy dress and be very painful about the process. She got past that crowd and eventually quit weddings. Except for mine and it was probably the last thing she made for me in 2019. Of which I am forever grateful and cherish that dress and was so glad she was there to enjoy our wedding day. She didn't understand that I wanted it to be an intimate affair but respected my wishes and we had a beautiful day. I miss her terribly, as do my kids and plant loving husband! But regularly we know she's around when Grandma Butterfly circles us and says hello. Happy Birthday Mum! ###

We have had a Japanese student with us for a week and it's been so lovely to have her in our home - to share the daily living, the routines, the food and the conversations. We were lucky enough to have the billet that my son was hosted with in Japan last year and so it was wonderful to reciprocate hosting. Stopping to chat with someone from a very different culture made me reflect on the importance of travel. It was something I was gifted from my travel aspiring parents who took us all around the world (from the age of 18 months!!! Yes, slightly mad!) to encouraging us to live overseas as well. I am so happy to see the joy my kids also get from travelling and to have the experience in someone else's home is a one off experience. We become open minded, grateful and gracious. I can't wait to get on a plane for our next trip away (in less than 45 days!!!). And this time with all of my family!! Where are you going next? And what has travel taught you?

Blog Articles - should I? Shouldn't I? The answer is yes - you should! There are many advantages to blog articles in promoting you as a business owner and I could go on about these (I think I have in another post?!) but I wanted to share the benefits a client is having (okay, it's my husband's website that I built for him to share his passion for cymbidium orchids!) - orchdiwise.com So he started out from ground zero and has gradually over the last 18 months built up his website to have a consist 2,000 to nearly 3,000 clicks per month! His market is worldwide, so this helps. But the main things he has done to grow his following - consistent blog posts. He has an Orchid of the Week, this gets posted every single week to create interest and consistency - nice and simple and easy to post. He has also then focussed on adding one to two articles a month at least. Sometimes he does more. He is now focussing on getting more subscribers and we are about to implement an incentive to sign up with the hope of getting some businesses advertising on the newsletter to his tribe. There are literally soooo many opportunities, it's mindblowing! 🤩

Relentless. Persistence. This is my mantra to stay motivated and keep on going. Pursuing a new career in a new industry is haaaaard! Hard to stay on top of things. Hard to feel like you have a voice. Hard to feel I can be relevant. But there's something inside of my that just wants to keeeeeep on going! See what happens when you never. give. up.
