This is really lovely acknowledgement of the women who showed so much trust and bared their souls for this powerful film. It has just been announced that Island of the Dead has been nominated for Best Documentary in the South Australian Screen Awards to be held next month. The film will also be screened at The Mercury in mid November (date to be confirmed). If you can't get to the screening you can watch it for free on ABC iview (Compass). To Julie Bury and Shona Fisher (both passed), Pat Goodwin and Heidi Grieg (end-of-life doula) I thank you again for taking us all on this enlightening journey.

It's official! The full untold story of the hunt for sausage dog Valerie on Kangaroo Island will be revealed on the ABC's Australian Story on Monday 6 October at 8pm. I was lucky enough to jag the gig to produce the doc alongside the ABC's lovely Rebecca Armstrong. Missing for 529 days in the remote north of Kangaroo Island, the quest to locate and trap the tiny but tough miniature dachshund become a worldwide phenomenon. Big thanks to Jared and Lisa at Kangala Wildlife Sanctuary as well as Valerie's owners Georgia and Josh for trusting me with this truly amazing story, and to KI's film producer extraordinaire Leah Churchill-Brown for giving me the chance. To all those others who agreed to tell their stories on camera and assist production, you were vital. The film includes the never-before-seen moment of reuniting between Valerie and her owners so my big thanks also goes to mainstream media for overstepping privacy boundaries and allowing a freelancer to swoop in with the world exclusive - a lesson for all there 😉 Official trailers and info to come next week in the lead-up to broadcast.

After three years in the making, this special documentary is now available to watch on ABC iview. I've always dreamed of an ABC broadcast for an independently made film and this is the perfect doc to make that a reality. Massive thanks to all in the Kangaroo Island community and beyond who assisted but especially to Heidi Grieg, Julie Bury, Pat Goodwin, Les Montanjees, Shona and Rick Fisher, and Mark Koolmatrie. Your openness, honesty and courage have combined to produce a powerful and important film. If you enjoy it, share far and wide and feel free to leave a review (good or bad). The Compass episode will also broadcast tonight at 6.30pm on the ABC nationwide.

On Kangaroo Island, known to First Nations as the Island of the Dead, locals are reimagining funerals. As the island's first "death doula" begins her work with the terminally ill, the community foster their own death rituals.

The SA History Festival program has gone live online and our documentary about the late Ian King and American River is on the home page. $10 tickets can be purchased from the link below. Through Kingy's donation of his precious photographic/video collection before his death and our team's vast archival research, we are creating a stunning visual journey of the unheralded town that helped build Kangaroo Island while under the stewardship of the tenacious harbour master who governed its industrial hub. Get along to learn about our island's vital maritime history told through the poignant and emotional words of Kingy and those who knew him best. Each of the events will also be followed by a special screening of my upcoming ABC Compass documentary Island of the Dead. https://festival.history.sa.gov.au/events/king-of-the-river-documentary-about-american-river-ki/

In my first foray into ABC world, I've signed a contract with Compass for the broadcast of my latest documentary Island of the Dead, based on Kangaroo Island. Exploring the powerful work of KI's first end-of-life doula and beautiful human Heidi Grieg, the film follows the journey of three courageous and inspiring rural women as they confront death in their own unique way. Filmed over multiple years with unfettered intimate access, we capture a rare and moving glimpse of the enlightenment they discover in the empowerment of their final days…before finding peace in nature’s embrace. The film will premiere on Sunday 20 April across the nation and will be available on iview thereafter. It also recently won an Award of Excellence at the LA-based Impact Docs Awards.
