Quashing a dumb rumour that got back to me yesterday. Apparently I hadn’t been given credit for the bass I played on my brother’s LPs! WRONG!

He always made sure I was credited -check the liner notes.

My brother has always looked out for me & we have a good relationship.
Over the years he’s hooked me up with a nice lounge, TV, speakers, computer & this year he drove me to my Masters graduation & bought me a friggin Moog Theremin.

With his success I can’t do much back for him except love him & let him know of proud I am & stand up for him when folks take these nasty lil shots. I’ve never traded off his name & he owes me nothing.

So let it be known that I have his back before any of you lot & never trash talk him to me-it won’t be a good result.

It was so good to get out and have a rap and meet some chill people yesterday. I love hip-hop I just hate the cheap shots and envy.

In a world where true friends are few, last week I lost one of the truest.
A very intelligent & well-read man, he was responsible for my love of music, nature, literature and my thirst for knowledge.
Like me (and most people) he was not without his flaws, but he was also kind, generous and loving and the world is not the same without him.

30 WOMADs deep & I finally got the pass I always wanted.
I’ve been at WOMADelaide since the very first one where Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan blew my musical mind —-this year I finally get to play !!!
Playing bass at this Friday 8pm with the band in the Frome Park Pavilion just after sunset on a glorious warm Summer night, just like Nusrat did (without the Sufi chorus, vocal mastery & with significantly more bass guitar)
Friends, if you’re going, it would be great to share this moment with you & if you could shoot a bit of footage too, I’d be indebted. This is something I never want to forget.
Plus Erin’s voice is not to be missed.

Played in Clowns of Decadence. Studied with Ritsuko from E-Type Jazz (RIP x). Mixed Orelia. Worked with Emily from Mackenzie. Taught with Jackie Reichstein whose mate is in Brillig. Played on shows with Bearded Clams and Psycho Green. Taught sound & video to Craig Elliot from Wrench. I was gifted Ben Smith from Urtekk’s Djembe. Jamming next week with Koral Chandler. My studio collabo & good friend Steve Fieldhouse mixed Skintilla (& probably a bunch of bands on this door). Carver is photographer for Wolf & Chain and produces with Bethan from Pest Control.

For future reference -this beautiful, ornate lonely looking Reed organ in the entrance hall of - a Story & Clarke maybe? The thing that interests me ? The drawbar that says “bass octave”, of course. I wonder if it’s been recorded before…

Today & I did fun things at -when I discovered Mick’s banjo had a piezzo out we put through the & cranked the 2nd & 3rd harmonic distortion paralleled it through their VSC-2 with long release high make-up & I made hideous lead feedback drones. It sounded awesome.😆 🪕

There was only one crew who had the across-the-board respect to pull off an LP with fourteen posse tracks in the mid-2000s with 43 members of the Australian group underground hip-hop scene from around the country-from S.A., W.A., ACT, VIC, NSW & QLD. One crew: Hospice. With my fav Oz duo of rapper/producers and Stuey Newsense at the helm, they achieved what no other crew had even considered doing.
Why bring it up in 2023? Because it’s just been released on double gatefold vinyl for the first time with two bonus unreleased tracks (well unreleased on a commercial level).
Go cop it sweet from the big cartel store. Be quick!

This weekend I went to hang with & & see Bethan’s band & drove Brian to where he lives in Northern Territory & went for walks & talked to emus & stayed up super late watching Deadwood for the 3rd time & moved a small fraction of dLs records (that over the years I have helped move from Magill to Cumberland Pk & then to current location & into storage & now back out of storage) & dL cooked chili margarita pizza in an oven for me & Miles & I made one half of a beat & edited too many turntable cuts.
