It's what's on the inside that counts.

It's what's on the inside that counts.

Hey friends… I need to say this with my whole chest tonight.

I’m backing local and I've been banging on (in the best way) about something we all need to face: the supermarket food system is not sustainable. Not for our planet. Not for our farmers. Not for our families.

And the bit that makes my stomach turn?

The amount of perfectly good, edible food that gets tossed… because it doesn’t “look right”.
A scar. A curve. A funny shape. Too small. Too big. Not shiny enough. Not “Instagram pretty”.

That’s not a quality problem. That’s a system problem.

Because here’s the truth:

You can’t taste looks.
Looks have no nutritional value.
You can’t taste size.
And a wonky carrot doesn’t hurt anyone.

But what does hurt?
When we train the whole world to shop with their eyes only… we create a system where food becomes decoration, not nourishment. And that has a cost:

🌍 More waste
🚛 More transport
🧴 More packaging
💸 More pressure on farmers to “grow for looks” instead of growing for food
🧡 More small farms struggling to survive

And honestly? Watching food be treated like it’s “not worthy” because of how it looks… feels criminal when families are doing it tough and farmers are being squeezed from every angle.

So tonight, consider this your permission slip:

Buy the ugly. Buy the odd. Buy the seconds.
Choose flavour over filters.
Choose nourishment over perfection.
Choose farmers over “pretty”.

Because the real flex isn’t perfect produce on a shelf…

It’s a food system that respects the earth and the people who feed us.

If you’ve ever eaten a meal and felt grateful… back the farmers.
Back the imperfect produce.
Back the people speaking up.
And let’s stop letting “looks” decide what deserves to be eaten.

💚 If it’s edible, it’s valuable.
Always was.
