My friend and colleague Kristy McBain MP re-opened the Cobargo RSL Memorial Hall today, celebrating the completion of its extensive refurbishment and the return of this much-loved building to the community.

Built by the Cobargo community between 1949 and 1952, the Hall has long been a centre of local life, serving veterans, the Sub-branch of the RSL and the wider Far South Coast community. It has now been fully restored thanks to a Federal Government Black Summer Bushfire Recovery Grant following the devastating 2019–20 bushfires.

A major factor of the project is the Hall’s future role as a safe, sustainable refuge.

The restoration was further strengthened through a solar and battery installation funded by the Federal Government in partnership with the Cobargo and District Energy Transition Group, ensuring the Hall can maintain power during disaster events.

Under the guidance of pro-bono architect Nigel Dickson (Dickson Rothschild) and skilled local tradespeople, the Hall has been beautifully and sympathetically refurbished. It now stands as an outstanding community asset—one that honours its history while strengthening Cobargo’s resilience for the future.

I extend my warm congratulations to everyone involved in bringing this important project back to life.
