Mindset Monday.
Some days test your mindset more than others.
Today is one of those days.
Mindset is shaped by both the good and the hard. The wins and the losses. The days where you feel strong, and the days where the weight sits heavy.
Grief does not follow a timeline. It changes, but it stays. It shows up in quiet moments, in memories, and in the things left unsaid.
Today is about acknowledging that.
It is about being honest with how you feel.
It is about allowing space for sadness.
It is about understanding that carrying loss does not mean you stop moving forward.
If today is a hard day for you, take it as it comes.
Reach out to someone you trust.
Take a moment for yourself.
And remember that both strength and vulnerability can exist at the same time.
Some days are about pushing forward.
Some days are about simply getting through.

It's Focus Forward Friday.
This week carried weight.
On Monday we reflected on the human cost of conflict in the Middle East.
On Tuesday we checked in on mates who might feel the impact of those memories.
On Wednesday we recognised wounded warriors and the cost of service.
On Thursday we remembered history and also farewelled someone who helped shape good memories from childhood.
Weeks like this remind us of something important.
Life brings reflection, loss, and responsibility. It also brings resilience.
Focus Forward Friday is not about forgetting what happened this week. It is about taking the lessons, the memories, and the perspective with us as we step into the next week.
Move your body.
Step outside.
Talk with people who ground you.
Take a moment to reset your thinking.
Progress does not come from ignoring hard weeks. Progress comes from learning from them and continuing to move forward.

Throwback Thursday.
Some of the most important memories in life are not the big events. They are the places and people who gave you space to breathe.
Many of us carry responsibility, pressure, and expectations through different parts of life. Work, service, family, and everything in between.
That is why it matters to have someone in your life, and somewhere you can go, where none of that matters for a while.
A place where you can unwind.
A place where you can be yourself.
A place where the pace slows down and the noise fades away.
For me, some of those memories came from time spent with family on a farm in the New South Wales countryside.
Throwback Thursday is not only about history. Sometimes it is about remembering the people and places that helped shape who we became.

It's Wear Your Colours Wednesday.
Today I’m wearing a Wounded Warrior Project shirt I bought from a PX store in Afghanistan in 2008. The words on the front read, “Believe in Heroes.”
The Wounded Warrior Project started in the United States in 2003. It was created to support service members who were wounded, injured, or became ill during military service after the attacks of 11 September 2001.
The organisation focuses on rehabilitation, mental health support, career transition, and long-term care for veterans and their families.
For many who served during those years, the message is simple and still relevant today.
Believe in heroes.
Not only the ones in uniform, but the ones who keep moving forward after service.
Today’s colours recognise those who carried the cost of war long after the fighting stopped.

Check In Tuesday.
The war involving Iran has reopened memories for many veterans who served in the Middle East.
Places like Kuwait, Qatar, and the UAE are now appearing in the news again. These are not distant places for many of us. They are locations where allied troops lived, worked, and built friendships over the past two decades.
For many who served there, those headlines can bring back memories, stress, and reflection.
Today is a reminder to check in on your mates.
If you know someone who served in the region, reach out. A short message or call can mean more than you think.
And if you are the one feeling the weight of it, reach out.
Send me a message if you need to talk. You do not have to carry it alone.

It has been just over a week since the war in the Middle East began. For many veterans and serving members, the places now in the headlines are not distant locations. They are places where we lived and worked alongside local communities.
Kuwait. Qatar. The UAE.
Places where friendships were formed. Where hospitality was offered without hesitation. Where a shared meal or a simple conversation provided a brief respite from the strains of operations.
Those moments mattered. They reminded us that beyond politics and conflict, people still choose kindness, empathy, and respect.
Today on Mindset Monday we take time to think, remember, and pause.
We think about the people now caught in the consequences of decisions made far above them.
We remember the humanity we experienced while serving there.
And we pause for those who have been lost, and for those who may yet be lost.
Mindset is not only about resilience. It is about perspective, empathy, and recognising the human cost behind every conflict.

There won't be any Waler Walk posts this week. See you all on Monday the 9th

Silent Sunday.

For 25 years, many Australian farmers have faced drought, flood, fire, debt, and isolation.

Since 2000, an estimated 900 to 1,000 farmers have died by su***de.
That is an average of around 38 lives each year.
Around 380 in the last decade.
Close to 190 in the last five years.

These are not numbers.
They are families. Communities. Generations of experience lost.

Right now, some communities in New South Wales sit under Level 6 water restrictions. Others are still recovering from flood.

Farmers carry climate risk, financial risk, and emotional strain. Often in silence.

This week, we pause for them.

We call on State and Federal Governments to strengthen long term drought resilience, mental health access, and practical support for rural communities.

Our farmers feed the nation.
They deserve more than survival.

It's Shoutout Saturday.
Gulf War Ceasefire.

28 February 1991 marked the Gulf War ceasefire. Australian personnel served through naval deployments and clearance diving operations during Operation Damask. Their contribution formed part of a broader coalition effort. Today’s shoutout is to all who served during the Gulf War and in subsequent Middle East operations.

History shows the importance of preparation and unity. Apply that forward. Build capability. Strengthen community. Move into the weekend with direction, not drift.
