BACK2RAVE THIS SAT NIGHT! SPECIAL GUEST DJS JONO FERNANDEZ & BARRIE BARTON

In the late 90s and noughties, Canberra and Adelaide were known as the places where people went wild… believe it or not. It was thought that Adelaide’s ‘up for it’ attitude was due to the potent brown speed being run by bikies – in Canberra it was due to the music but to be honest, there were some pretty scary bikies involved too.
Barrie Barton and Jono Fernandez were a primary force behind this legendary era of Canberra clubbing and raving. ‘Positive’, the club night they played at and ran, had more credible DJs, more hands in the air, more posters stuck up around the city and more pingers per square metre than any other regular night. Outside of Heaven Nightclub, they played at university raves, interstate clubs and festivals, small bars with naïve owners, and if your neighbours were unlucky, they could turn up at your kick on and make sure it really did kick on in every sense of the word.
25 years later, Barrie and Jono are still alive. They can’t hear that well and their backs hurt from carrying record boxes, but they still love progressive house music. More importantly they still love the human energy from that very special time in Canberra. Back2Rave is this Saturday at Shadows, 9pm-3am

The dark and ugly sister to the movie Black Swan. A chain-smoking, half-swan, half-ballerina turns the tragic story of Swan Lake into a dark and raunchy rom-com. And who knows…You may even get to open her box. Could you be the hero that helps her escape this living hell?!

A raunchy parody of Swan Lake, SWAN?, a darkly funny and perfectly en pointe takedown of the patriarchy and perceived self-worth, is a genre-defying one-person show that has a fusion of ballet, clown, bouffon and song, which challenges audiences to consider just how much you’d change yourself for a romantic partner.

Wednesday 25 March, 7.30pm
The Q – Queanbeyan
