Welcome to Big Oz Explorers! After 3.5 years on the road full-time, we're now part-time travellers and proud owners of Agora Hideaway, our campground in Tenterfield, NSW. Follow us for a mix of farm life, DIY projects, and travel adventures. Whether you're planning your big lap or just curious about the off-grid lifestyle, we’ll share what we’ve learned along the way and why we chose this journey.

It’s been an exciting ride with ups, downs, and plenty of learning curves, all shared by your genuine Aussie family.

We’ve hit a whole new level of abundance up here lately and honestly, we’re still wrapping our heads around it. The amount of fruit growing on the property right now is wild. Every time we walk outside there’s something new to pick, taste or learn about, and it feels pretty unreal to have this much food literally at our fingertips.

The bananas have been amazing. We’ve got a heap of trees here with a few different varieties, including lady fingers and ducasse banana, also known as the sugar banana. Right now we’ve got six bunches coming through and we cannot wait for them to ripen. Nothing beats home grown bananas.

Mangosteen has been a standout too. It’s one of our all-time favourite fruits and having them growing in the backyard feels like the biggest win.

Then there’s our lemonade tree, a hybrid citrus that’s part lemon and part mandarin. The fruit comes out sweet, tangy and seriously easy to snack on.

Living in the tropics definitely has its perks, but this amount of fresh food still blows us away. Feeling pretty grateful for it all.

There’s something incredibly satisfying about this moment, moving our furniture into the house after all the hard work we’ve put in over the past month and a half. It’s been full on, but seeing everything come together makes it all worth it!

We haven’t seen a lot of this furniture in years, so pulling it all back out and setting it up again honestly felt amazing. Every piece carries memories from past adventures, and now it’s part of a new chapter.

Now it’s time to sit back, take it all in, and enjoy our new setup as a home 🏡

Growing our own food still blows us away. It’s something we’ve talked about for years and now we’re actually living it. The new property keeps delivering surprises too. We’ve just found a whole patch of sweet potatoes tucked under the paw paw trees.

We’re learning as we go but it’s pretty satisfying pulling real food out of the ground and knowing we get to cook it ourselves, moments like this make it all worth it 🙌🏼

Two years married.

We’ve laughed, learnt, built, and tackled everything life’s thrown at us side by side. From wild adventures to quiet nights, between chaos & calm, it’s all been better because it’s us.

Here’s to another year of love, teamwork, and a lifetime more to come. ❤️

What do you want to see more of from us?

Travel for us is slowing down a little, we’ve got a few awesome trips planned for next year, but for now things are shifting a bit.

We’ve found a new property (yes, another big project) and this one has some huge potential. We’ll be revealing more on YouTube over the coming few weeks, but in the meantime we’d love to hear from you.

🔥 New Episode 🔥

In this episode, we’re back on the Old Telegraph Track for Part 2, and there’s no turning back now. After wrapping up the first half and bypassing Gunshot, it’s time to take on every single crossing from here to the end… including the one that haunts most Cape York travellers... Nolan’s Crossing .

With memories of 2020 still fresh (when our mates couldn’t make it through Logans Crossing), we weren’t sure which would be worse.. Logans or Nolans. Either way, we’re about to find out.

Join us as we tackle deep water, soft sand, and slippery exits in one of the toughest and most iconic stretches of 4x4 track in Australia!

Final Stage of the House Reno’s 💪🏼

This week marks a huge milestone for us, the final big stage of our home renovations, the flooring! We’ll be honest, we’ve never laid flooring before, so this one was definitely a learning curve. But as always, we love a good challenge and are big believers in giving things a crack ourselves.

Before we could even start laying the floor, we had to sort out a few issues with the concrete. There were several large cracks that needed attention, so we hired a concrete grinder to level everything out and get the base prepped properly. It was a bit of extra work, but totally worth it to make sure the new flooring sat perfectly flat.

We went with a Godfrey Hirst hybrid floating floor in the colour Spotted Gum, and honestly, it’s been a total game changer. The rich tones of the Spotted Gum bring warmth and character to every room, tying in beautifully with the fresh new paint throughout the house. It’s got that perfect mix of natural timber look with the durability and practicality of hybrid flooring, exactly what we needed for our busy home and lifestyle.

Seeing it all come together has been incredibly rewarding. Each plank laid felt like a step closer to turning this house into our home. We’ve learnt a stack of new skills along the way, from prepping the underlay to cutting and clicking boards into place, and we’re genuinely proud of what we’ve achieved.

It’s been a long process of painting, updating, and transforming, but now with the new floors down, the whole space feels fresh, modern, and finished. It’s finally becoming the home we envisioned from the start 🏡

We feel so grateful to have landed on a property with so many established fruit trees, it’s been such a treat discovering what’s growing around us.

Two of the many trees we have on the property have been going absolutely nuts lately, and we’ve started harvesting in big numbers. The first is a black sapote, better known as the chocolate pudding fruit. They’re big, rich, and pretty popular around here for good reason! The second is a star apple, also called caimito, and we can confirm they are incredibly delicious.

We’re stoked to have these growing right in our backyard, but honestly, there’s no way we could ever keep up with the amount of fruit coming off the trees, so we’ve started supplying a local fruit shop with the extras which feels pretty cool.

Nature really delivers up here in the tropics.

Stage two of the house reno is officially underway! With the painting wrapped up (for now), we’re moving onto the electrical and lighting upgrades.

We’ve gone with Brilliant Smart WiFi Downlights tunable, dimmable, and app-controlled. Which means we can tweak the lighting to suit the time of day or our mood. Every room is getting these new smart downlights, plus new ceiling fans with way better airflow and all new switches and outlets to bring the place up to date.

Being 100% off-grid, every little upgrade helps with power efficiency, and these lights will make a big difference to our overall energy use. On top of that, they’re giving the place a much cleaner, more modern look, and it’s already changing the feel of the house completely.

Bit by bit, it’s coming together!

🔥 NEW EPISODE 🎉

This episode we hit the bottom half of the Old Telegraph Track, and things get wild fast. From river crossings and rough tracks to a few unexpected breakages, it’s one of those days on the Cape where anything can happen... and it does.

Our Ford Ranger ends up doing something it probably shouldn’t (you’ll get a laugh out of that one), while Sian's Dad’s Patrol cops a few surprises of its own. The obstacles are nothing like our 2020 trip, deeper crossings, rougher exits, and a few new challenges thrown in for good measure.

Jayda’s loving being back on the tracks, Jack takes a little while to warm up, and by the end of the day everyone’s in full adventure mode again. Did we take on Gunshot this time? You’ll have to watch to find out..!

It’s been a massive few weeks for us behind the scenes and we can finally share why! We’ve bought a new property and have been head down getting it ready for us to move in.

From the moment we got the keys it’s been all systems go. We started by repairing and prepping the walls and roof ready for a fresh coat of paint, next is upgrading all the interior electrical to modern fittings plus on top of that we will be laying a brand new hybrid flooring throughout the house.

Every day brings a new challenge but it’s honestly been such a rewarding process. There’s something pretty special about standing back at the end of the day, covered in paint, sore hands, and seeing the progress we’ve made together.

We’ve taken on every job ourselves, learning as we go, and we’re loving it. There’s still plenty more to come but it’s starting to feel like us already.

Can’t wait to share more details over the next few weeks 🙌🏼
