So this one’s for those of us who like to unhitch and head out for a bit of four-wheel driving.

Matt spent some time poking around the tracks around Lake Brockman and Lane Poole Reserve with the Perth Jeep Community during Jeep Life 2025. It’s a great area if you like setting up camp and heading out to explore.

Think tight forest tracks, short steep pinches, a few mud holes, and plenty of spots where you stop, hop out, have a look, then roll on. Nothing extreme, just something a bit different and a whole lot easier without the camper on the back.

Lake Brockman worked well as a base camp. Head out, explore, then be back for a cuppa by arvo. Kind of perfect.

If you are travelling with a van or camper but still enjoy a bit of four-wheel driving, Lake Brockman and Lane Poole Reserve are well worth adding to the list.

In early October, Matt headed off to Jeeplife 2025 which was a whole weekend of camping, 4WDing, and hanging out with a bunch of other Jeep people.

The group camped in the Zamia overflow section of the Lake Brockman Tourist Park, which was perfect for large group.

Matt has a series of videos up on YouTube if you want to see things in more details.

John Forrest Lookout

There is roughly a 750 metre steep track up to the top of the hill to the lookout. It certainly is a great thigh workout but totally worth it.

John Forrest Lookout | Shire of Perenjori, Western Australia

John Forrest Lookout is one of the key vantage points in the Karara–Lochada region, offering uninterrupted 360-degree views over the surrounding station country and Karara Rangeland Park. The lookout sits on elevated granite country, making it an ideal spot to appreciate the scale and landscape diversity of this part of the northern Wheatbelt.

From the top, you can see wide stretches of former pastoral land, now managed for conservation, along with the varied terrain of Karara Rangeland Park, including low breakaways, shrublands, rocky rises, and seasonal wildflower areas. The lookout is accessible via gravel roads about 50 minute drive east from Perenjori.

Matt wasn’t exactly thrilled when I said we were heading to the Wheatbelt to look for wildflowers.
And then we ended up on the Lochada Track. Just look at his face now.

For a bit of context, the track is named after one of six former stations that once operated out here. It is all now part of the Karara Rangeland Park for conservation purposes.

We love that our setup lets us head off the bitumen whenever curiosity kicks in. Case in point: we somehow ended up on the Lochada Track while chasing wildflowers. Totally unplanned.

We did a bit of Googling and it turns out there is a heaps more things to explore in the area than we realised.

We reckon we will be back next wildflower season for a proper look around.

So gather round for a funny story

We wanted to head out to John Forrest Lookout from Perenjori. Easy, right? About 50 minutes, straight-forward… unless you’re travelling with someone (cough Leisa) who has an aversion to backtracking on roads she’s already done.

Anyway, Apple Maps suggests there is a loop route to get to and from the lookout. So we headed out via Mungaga Road with the plan of swinging back in on Warrieadar Copper Mine Road after the lookout. Perfect. Love a loop.…until we rolled up to a mine guard house and boom gates on Mungaga Road and got stopped dead in our tracks. We were only 15 minutes from the lookout. FIFTEEN MINUTES!.

So naturally, and by naturally, I mean because Leisa refuses to retrace her steps, we spotted a little track that should have had us at the lookout in no time.

Three. Hours. Later.
We finally popped out at the lookout with Leisa sporting a fresh pair of grumpy pants and Matt laughing because what else can you do? It turned into a whole adventure. We ended up following a section of the famous Rabbit Proof Fence and then stumbled onto the Lochada Track. Adventures like this is exactly why we bought the Reconn R2 Lifestyle Camper.

We are pretty sure most of the tracks were inside Karara Rangeland Park And by the way, this was the exact moment Matt suddenly decided he does like wildflower hunting after all.

Worth it? Yep. Would we do it again? Also yep.

We don’t talk much on social media about the affiliate links and partnerships we have. Not because they are secret, but because we never want our socials to turn into one big shopping channel. We are happy to share our links on YouTube, but the Facebook and Instagram side of Filthy Off Road Adventures has always been where I (Leisa) share our travel photos and stories, not endless product drops.

Here’s the funny part though. We hate paying full price for anything, yet we haven’t shared the links here that could genuinely help people save a bit of cash. Makes no sense when you say it out loud, hey? But we really have been agonising over whether to post them.

So, it’s time to be upfront. We do have a handful of affiliate links and partnerships. Nothing wild, just brands we genuinely use all the time: Salty Captain, Stratus, Open Road, iWimius, Outcamp, and Bluetti.

And here’s the transparency bit:
If you buy something through our links or use our codes, we may get a small commission. Nothing huge, definitely not “quit your job and become a lady of leisure” money , but it does help put fuel in the tank and a block of chocolate in the fridge.

And honestly, that’s probably why we hesitated. We never wanted anyone thinking we were here to push products for cash. That’s just not us.

So let’s be super clear:
We only partner with brands whose gear we already use, already trust, and have properly tested. In most cases, we bought the gear long before any brand came knocking. And yep, we have a few more companies waiting in the wings, but we’re still testing their products because nothing gets recommended unless it earns its spot in our setup.
Our reputation matters, and we’re not about to start flogging junk. Simple as that.

We will pop the links and codes in the comments, and we will share them again when it makes sense, especially when people ask. But this page will always be about the adventure first. That part is not negotiable.

Oh and speaking of gear....after the whole Mawby Hook War of 2025, maybe we should’ve asked them for an affiliate link too. Imagine the chaos. 😅

Mullewa certainly was the best spot for wildflowers this season. All photos in this post were taken along the main road heading east, and the colours were unreal. The pink in the paddocks really grabbed us. Yeah, there was a bit of Cape W**d around, but overall the area just looked really pretty. So colorful
