The pipeline from serial people pleaser to serial people disappointer in women needs to be studied. Apparently, the moment you stop setting yourself on fire to keep everyone else warm, suddenly youโre โdifficult.โ Fascinating.
๐ BOOK: Untamed
โ๐พ AUTHOR: Glennon Doyle
๐ก MESSAGE: Stop abandoning yourself for approval.
Untamed is essentially a 300-page performance review of how women are conditioned to be agreeable, accommodating, self-sacrificing and, most importantly, easy to deal with.
Doyleโs central argument? Many of us are exhausted because we are running a full-time customer service department for everyone elseโs feelings.
The book asks what happens when a woman stops asking, โWhat will keep everyone happy?โ and starts asking, โWhat do I actually want?โ
Spoiler alert: not everyone enjoys this organisational restructuring. ๐
My biggest takeaway? Disappointing other people is sometimes the price of no longer disappointing yourself.
Did I agree with everything? No. Untamed can be repetitive and sometimes presents personal revelation as universal wisdom. But its core message lands: the life everyone applauds may still be the wrong life for you.

Read this if you are recovering from people pleasing, over-explaining your decisions, or believing someone elseโs disappointment automatically means you have done something wrong.
Sometimes the people calling you โselfishโ are simply experiencing the inconvenience of no longer benefiting from your lack of boundaries.
(Please read that as many times as you need to darling.)
That is not a crisis. It is a change management issue.
And absolutely we love change management issues when they reinforce clear boundaries and our mental health ๐ซถ๐พ
