Make sure you know the rules. A life jacket can save your life.

👋 Meet Daniel, a boatie who has been fishing solo for over 30 years.

The day Daniel ended up overboard without wearing a lifejacket was flat calm—the kind of day you never expect anything to go wrong.

"Most people think the longer you’ve been boating the safer you operate, which isn’t true. It just brings you closer to an incident due to complacency," he said.

While travelling alone at 16 knots between fishing spots about 7km offshore from Port Alma, Daniel went overboard and fell into in the water in a matter of seconds.

"If my boat hadn’t accidentally slowed and circled back, allowing me to swim over to the boat and pull myself aboard I don’t think I’d be here to tell the story… many others are not so lucky.” he said.

Most boaties don’t think about how fast things can go wrong, until they do. Please remember to wear a lifejacket when underway to protect you and your loved ones.

I’m sure plenty of people can associate with this!! Fishing is more than a sport or recreation, it is a way of life!!

Not sure what lifejacket you need to carry or when to wear them?

Chat to a MSQ officer at the Sanctuary Cove International Boat

Visitors to the Sanctuary Cove Boat Show can get the good oil from Maritime Safety Queensland on the new lifejacket laws – what lifejackets they should have on board their vessels, and when they must wear them, before MSQ starts enforcing new lifejacket regulations from 1 July 2025.

MSQ Noosa River Management Plan Update:

Maritime Safety Queensland (MSQ) is continuing to implement the Noosa River Management Plan through a staged and considered approach.

The staged implementation has already introduced important zoning measures such as speed limits and anchoring restrictions, alongside a broader package of initiatives designed to increase safety, improve access for all waterway users and protect the environment and the river's ecosystem.

What's on the chew near you | - https://mailchi.mp/bnbfishing/weekend-fishing-reports-may-8 The prawns are also on in the southern parts of Moreton Bay - get your cat net ready and grab a feed for Mother's Day.

The good news associated with the cooler weather is that squid will be coming on the chew.

There’s more to squid than just battered or crumbed. This stuffed squid recipe with lime and chilli dressing will have your mouth watering and your tummy wanting more.

What's on the chew near you | - https://mailchi.mp/bnbfishing/weekend-fishing-reports-may-1 Our first weekend of winter is looking a little average in SEQ. Strong south east winds are forecast for most of the long weekend. I guess this will give the fish a bit of a respite after the hard time they have had over the school holidays and long weekends. With the temps starting to cool this weekend might be a great time to get your snapper gear sorted. The spring rains and run of prawns should see them biting.

What's on the chew near you | - https://mailchi.mp/bnbfishing/weekend-fishing-reports-april-25 Today is a day to pause and remember soldiers who severed and died in wars. Their courage and sacrifice ensured we have the country we live in today. Lest we forget.

On the fishing front, rain is going to be the main issue over this long weekend in SEQ. Winds will be manageable, but keep an eye on the forecast as there has been noticeably more wind at times than forecast over the last few days. Locally the have been a few prawns...

Happy Easter | What's on the chew near you | New anchoring laws in Noosa River - don't get caught out! - https://mailchi.mp/bnbfishing/weekend-fishing-reports-april-17 The Easter weekend is looking top-notch for fishing and boating - someone must be looking down on us for a change - guess it is that time of year. SEQ should have light to variable wind over the next few days and the swell is also dropping. Inshore snapper have still been the price catch with bait doing the tick at the moment.
