Make sure you know the rules. A life jacket can save your life.
👋 Meet Daniel, a boatie who has been fishing solo for over 30 years.
The day Daniel ended up overboard without wearing a lifejacket was flat calm—the kind of day you never expect anything to go wrong.
"Most people think the longer you’ve been boating the safer you operate, which isn’t true. It just brings you closer to an incident due to complacency," he said.
While travelling alone at 16 knots between fishing spots about 7km offshore from Port Alma, Daniel went overboard and fell into in the water in a matter of seconds.
"If my boat hadn’t accidentally slowed and circled back, allowing me to swim over to the boat and pull myself aboard I don’t think I’d be here to tell the story… many others are not so lucky.” he said.
Most boaties don’t think about how fast things can go wrong, until they do. Please remember to wear a lifejacket when underway to protect you and your loved ones.
