Congratulations to debut author DJ Taylor on the amazing launch event yesterday for Anna's War! We hear it was a full house filled with excitement and warmth on the release of this very special story.

Here are the faces behind the story - Catherina Vullers and Hendricus Vullers, as well as Matt Theunissen.

Author DJ Taylor was inspired by the real-life memories of her parents-in-law and their friend Matt Theunissen —childhood recollections of N**i occupation, resistance, and the courage it took just to survive.

What a special moment it must have been for them all to read the story inspired by their real-life experiences...

You can grab your copy of Anna's War from all good bookshops and Riveted Press.

Many of our authors who visit schools tell us that WWII is of particular interest for students. We think it's important to share different perspectives and experiences of war, which is why we have recently published two very different titles set during WWII.

The first is a middle-grade novel - On Gallant Wings by Dr Helen Edwards Writes. On Gallant Wings is a sweeping WWII adventure that shines a light on many little-known aspects of the war's impacts on Australians at home.

The second is a YA novel - Anna's War by DJ Taylor. Anna's War is a gripping tale of resilience, forbidden connection, family loyalties and the growing bravery of a young girl thrust into the deep shadows of war.

Both of these titles are perfect for libraries and classroom novels. Available via bookshops, online bookshops and Riveted Press, as well as Lamont Standing Orders.

The evocative cover art for both novels is by Tamlyn Teow.

If you have questions or would like to find out more about a school visit, please contact our authors or their speaking agencies directly.

Riveted Press is delighted to reveal the cover for the upcoming Flight of the Drakkonbarq by Sarah Giddy.

Bat Brikson is less than two centimetres tall—but his dreams are bigger than the sky.

Tired of feeling like a misfit, Bat hitches a ride on his newly hatched moth and takes off on a daring quest. His mission? To fly beyond the grass, find the legendary enemy dragonfly-riders, and finally discover where he belongs.

But the world above is nothing like he imagined. From riding beetles and exploring treetop villages to joining sky-high honey quests and befriending a fierce young warrior named Elfrida, Bat is swept into a world of wonder—and danger. The dragonfly-riders, known as the Drakkonbarqs, aren’t the villains he was raised to fear. In fact, some of them feel more like home than the classmates he left behind.

As Bat navigates battles, secrets, and shifting loyalties, he begins to realise that being different doesn’t mean you don’t belong. And that sometimes, the greatest quest isn’t to change yourself—but to see others more clearly.

A soaring adventure full of bravery, friendship, and the magic of finding your place in the world.

Perfect for readers aged 9 to 13 years and all fans of fantasy and adventure books. Relatable themes of loneliness, bullying, and finding where you belong. This adventure-driven story of bravery, self-discovery,
and personal growth by Sarah Giddy includes captivating illustrations completed as a major work during the author’s Bachelor of Visual Arts & Design.

Available now for pre-order. Out on September 30th!

How do two authors in different states write a story together?

Authors Kate Gordon Reads and Dr Helen Edwards Writes have been asked this question a lot! The answer is simple - they connected via social media, developed a friendship and mutual admiration for each other's work, decided to write a story together, and off they went!

'We usually come up with a few ideas and then we pick one,' Helen says. 'Then one of us starts with the first chapter and we "riff" off each others' chapters, creating the next one and the next one and so on.'

They often stop to discuss where the story is headed and will need to tweak their own character's voice within the other person's chapters from time to time. There are some sections where they will co-write the chapter, such as with a verse or secondary character's point of view.

When asked if they would do it again, both Kate and Helen say absolutely! And in fact, they have more books coming in the future.

The Disappearing Circus is officially released on 29th July. Pre-order now via your local bookshop, online bookshops and Riveted Press. Cover illustrated by the brilliant Tamlyn Teow.

ACQUISITION NEWS!
đŸ„łđŸ„łđŸ„łđŸ„ł
Riveted Press welcomes debut author Anne Farrell! Anne's debut junior fiction series featuring a friendship between a rakali – a lesser-known Australian native animal similar to an otter - and a girl, will appeal to all those who enjoy an adventure featuring animals.

Anne has always loved writing, and channelled this for many years as a marketer and copywriter. Meanwhile, a small dream of becoming an author quietly simmered, and in 2020, she took the leap by diving into a variety of courses to learn the craft of storytelling and fiction writing. This sparked her debut novel which is now a trilogy. The story’s main character and setting were inspired by riverside walks Anne took near her home. Over the past five years, she’s continued to refine her story and develop ideas for a series.

Anne holds a Masters degree majoring in professional writing, and is a member of SCBWI, CBCA, ASA and
Writing NSW. In 2024, she won the 2024 Just Write For Kids Australia Pitch It! Competition (Junior Fiction).

When Emme and Ivy—two runaway girls weighed down by grief—stumble upon a strange circus on the moors, they are flung together, as they discover a world unlike any other. Ghostly performers, mythical creatures, and a Ringmistress with dark secrets await them beneath the blood-red Big Top.

To save the fading circus from vanishing forever, Emme and Ivy must uncover their hidden talents and put on a show to end all shows.
