People don't reject AI content because it looks fake. They reject it because it doesn't feel like a person. We were talking about how good the new AI video tools have got. Genuinely convincing now, none of the obvious AI slop.

But that was never really the problem. Especially with educational content, people want to hear from an actual person, not a robot that got the words right. Even a perfect clone, the moment you couldn't tell, people would start hunting for whether it was really you.

Which is why the ums, the ahs, the awkward pauses, the filler, that's the stuff that makes us human. Cutting all of it out is the mistake. Leaving it in is going to be the trend for the next couple of years.

There's one thing that quietly doubles what you get out of creating content, and most business owners skip it.As business owners we jump from idea to idea.

Shiny object syndrome. We're always trying new formats instead of doubling down on the one that's already working. So here's the move. Go back through your old content and find the videos that spiked in views or comments. Then make those again, with a slight variation.

If it works twice, it's a proven format. Add it to your roster and keep running it. That's how you become known for something, and it's how some of the biggest creators on the planet grew, doing one format over and over.

Keeping your energy up on a filming day is one of the hardest parts. Here's how we make it easier.Content takes a lot of outward energy. You're pushing information out for hours.

So first, have one person there to film with you. Not a crowd, just someone to bounce off.

Second, the biggest energy crash of the day comes right after lunch. Once you start digesting, your ability to think just tanks. So if you're heading to the pub, stay away from them carby chippies.

Third, match the format to your energy. Start the day on easy formats like spoken off camera, then move into the hard stuff like talking to camera once you've got wins on the board. Film the bulk before lunch. After lunch, go back to easy or to content that doesn't need you to speak at all.

Then use that last bit of afternoon energy for the harder pieces. Front-load the hard stuff.

Your future self will thank you.

Your ads have been live 48 hours. Here are the four numbers that tell you if they're working or just burning money.Hook rate first. Three second views divided by impressions. It tells you if the ad is actually stopping the scroll.

Target 20% or higher. Below 10% is very bad, and the fix is the first three seconds. Click-through rate on the link. That tells you if the offer and the body are compelling enough to make someone act. Target 1% plus. Cost per lead. What one enquiry actually costs you. This one tells you if the economics hold up as you scale, because a high number only gets worse.

Cost per acquisition. What it costs to turn that lead into a paying client. This is the one that tells you if the whole thing is worth running. Work backwards from the furthest number you've got.

That's how you decide to keep a campaign or kill it.

The best hire you'll make this year isn't on Seek. They're not looking. They've got a job.

They're just not thrilled about it, and they'd move for the right business. We've been running recruitment campaigns through Meta lately and thats the whole unlock. Seek only shows you people actively hunting.

Meta puts you in front of people who aren't, the ones who are quietly open but would never fill out a job board. Two formats do the heavy lifting. Static ads, and behind-the-scenes content.

The behind-the-scenes stuff works because A-tier talent gets to see what your business actually feels like before they ever apply. That's been pulling great results for our clients.

You liked them in the interview. That's actually a warning sign.

When you click with someone in the room, your brain starts cutting corners. You stop asking the hard questions. You find out you both love golf or grew up in the same suburb, and suddenly that feels like hiring criteria.

It's called the halo effect. And it's how most small businesses end up with a team built on vibes, not skill.

The fix is simple: name it when you feel it. Then stick to your questions anyway.

Tell your new hire what happens when they mess up. Before they mess up.

Most leaders wait until something breaks to have the hard conversation. By then there's fear on one side and frustration on the other.

The better move: set the expectation in week one. Here's what we do with mistakes here. Here's how I'll handle it. No hiding, no panic, just surface it and fix it together.

That one conversation builds more trust than any team-building event.

If you can't hire, you'll always be stuck doing it yourself.

Most business owners treat hiring as something they just figure out as they go. But it's an actual skill. And if you never build it, you'll always be the person executing everything in your business.

Then there's the second skill nobody talks about: becoming the kind of leader great people actually want to work for. Hiring well gets them in. Leadership keeps them there.

Liz breaks down both in the latest episode. Link in bio.
