Your worth doesn't change. The environment does.

Sometimes the heaviest thing you can do for yourself is recognise when somewhere, or something, or someone, is making you feel smaller than you are.

You are not the problem. You might just be in the wrong place.

In January 2016, Cole Miller was killed by a coward's punch in Fortitude Valley.

In this episode I sat down with his Mum, Mary Leigh.

I'm not going to lie. This was one of the toughest conversations I've ever had. The courage Mary Leigh showed in sharing her story blew me away.

We talked about the impact of losing Cole. The grief. The family. And the decision they made to donate his organs, and the lives that decision saved.

This one is confronting. But Mary Leigh's message is so important. Talk to your kids and your loved ones about organ donation. It is one of the greatest gifts you can give.

A mother's love is so beautiful.

I had no idea how inaccurate cycle tracking apps actually were until I sat down with Sam Costa.

Only 42% of apps reviewed could give a somewhat accurate ovulation date. That is a lot of women making decisions based on wrong information.

Did you know spotting isn't day one of your cycle? Log it wrong and your fertile window is out by three to four days. The egg is only receptive for 12 to 24 hours. Most apps aren't telling you that.

Sam is a nurse, midwife and researcher and she is so generous with her knowledge. This chat is one of my favourites.

Every woman deserves to give birth close to home. But for so many in rural Australia, that just isn't the reality.

I'm revisiting a conversation where I sat down with Sarah Elliott, RN, midwife and academic, to talk about the realities of rural and remote birthing, high risk deliveries, and what the research says about supporting mothers and babies during and after birth.

Because where you live should never determine the care you receive.

I used to think stress just came with a drink attached.

Like the two were the same thing.
They're not.

Alcohol doesn't actually take the edge off. It just delays it. And the habit builds so quietly you barely notice it happening.

If you've been wondering whether your relationship with alcohol is something worth looking at, it probably is. And that's not a bad thing. That's just honest.

You don't need to overhaul your whole life. You just need a better way to cope.

Start there.

He became a quadriplegic. Then he became an emergency doctor.

Dr Dinesh Palipana's story is one of the most remarkable I've ever had the privilege of hearing. Courage, resilience, humour and determination in equal measure.

We talked about his accident. Depression. His Mum. And the unwavering belief that with the right people around you, anything is possible.

This one will stay with me for a long time.

The system doesn't prepare you for what comes after.

In this episode of Tenderness for Nurses, I sat down with Horse, a former SASR operator who has done six rotations in Afghanistan. And when he went looking for the root of his trauma, it wasn't the war that kept coming up.
It was childhood. And how he was treated when he came home.

It makes you think about every veteran, every nurse, every first responder who has ever been asked to just get on with it.

This was the toughest thing I've ever recorded.

7 years alcohol-free. And I still carry so much around it.

Not the drinking. The shame.

I asked my beautiful friend Abby to interview me because I couldn't do it alone. She's seen both versions of me and never once judged me. I cried before, during and after this one.

But shame grows in silence and secrecy. And maybe my story helps someone. I truly hope it does.

Motherhood. The only job where you pour everything you have into someone, and the greatest compliment you get is watching them not need you anymore.

To every mum out there today, the fur baby mums, the ones still trying, the ones who have lost, you are more appreciated than you know.

This one made me angry. And sad. And honestly, a little heartbroken.

I had the privilege of sitting down with Horse, a former SASR operator, military dog handler and advocate, and what he shared about coming home deserves to be heard.
