This easter weekend, Dan and I decided to try some frequently mentioned places over on the North Side. Here’s my opinion and ratings - photos named.
• Banyo Banh Mi & Burgers:
Crispy Pork $10
The cheapest of the 3, but also the best filling and best bang for your buck.
The veg tasted fresh, great pickle taste, the onion wasn’t overpowering and gave a nice flavour. The bread was crunchy, pork was juicy and the crackle was 🤤🤤. You know the roll is on point, when you’re finished and content but still craved more.
Rate: 9/10
(would be a 10 if the roll was a bit more softer inside and if they used fresh chilli.)
• WOW Banh Mi Aspley:
Myself: Crispy Pork Belly $10.50
Dan: Chargrilled Pork $10.50
Not as big as Banyo or DT’s Taigum, but the filling was packed, beautiful pickle tasting veg. Unfortunately no Paté (Dan doesn’t mind that though), they used pork belly and it was so good. Bread was fresh, Dan said his reminded him alot of V Banh Mi at Redcliffe Markets (his favourite place) and gave such a generous serving of chilli. This would come 2nd out of the 3. However I didn’t get the crave for more afterwards.
Rate: 7.5/10
(If the roll was a bit larger and they had paté, score would definitely be higher)
• DT’s Patisserie & Pork Rolls Taigum
Crispy Pork $11
The least favourite of the 3. Size of the roll was big and impressive, however the veg wasn’t fresh tasting and neither was the pork (you know that taste where things have been sitting out for a long time?). They did use fresh chilli here atleast. Unfortunately just everything didn’t taste fresh, even the coriander didn’t taste like proper coriander 🥲 plus almost non existent.
Rate: 5.5/10
(Give me the roll from here and add the fillings from WOW, it would be 👌🏼)
