Guests aboard Scenic Eclipse had a front-row seat to the 12 August total solar eclipse, with the ship positioned off East Greenland as the Moon's shadow swept across the Arctic and North Atlantic.

The eclipse's path of totality crossed Greenland, Iceland and northern Spain. Scenic's Arctic videographer captured the moment from the ship as it sailed through East Greenland during the 15-day Wonders of the High Arctic: Greenland & Iceland voyage, which departed Oslo and concludes in Reykjavik on 18 August.

Discovery Team adds Arctic context

Scenic's Discovery Team provided commentary on the eclipse and the surrounding Arctic landscape as it unfolded, adding scientific and geographic context to the viewing for guests on board.

BULA! I am off to Fiji for a week to board the new Blue Lagoon Cruises Yasawa Princess ship as we cruise the Yasawa Islands. The ship is so small and intimate, it can tether off to a palm tree.

European Waterways says its luxury hotel barge program remains fully operational despite low water levels affecting parts of Europe, with just four vessels requiring minor itinerary adjustments.

The operator expects no cruise cancellations for the remainder of the season, providing reassurance for travel advisors with clients booked on European canal holidays.

Cruises in Scotland, Ireland, England and Italy remain unaffected, while most French itineraries are also operating as scheduled, including sailings in the Canal du Midi, Champagne, Alsace and Brittany.

Burgundy itineraries adjusted

In Burgundy, European Waterways has repositioned a small number of vessels onto nearby waterways, generally within about 50 kilometres of their original routes.

The company said the changes have allowed it to retain most planned excursions and guest experiences.

Unlike free-flowing rivers, many European canals are managed using reservoirs and other water-control systems.

Windstar Cruises is preparing for another celestial sailing, with flagship sailing yacht Wind Surf set to position itself in the path of totality near Malta for the total solar eclipse on 2 August 2027.

The astronomical event will form the centrepiece of a nine-night Total Solar Eclipse from Greece and Malta voyage, sailing roundtrip from Athens from 27 July 2027.

Weather permitting, guests aboard the 342-guest yacht will experience almost three minutes of totality as daylight fades and stars become visible in the middle of the day.

The voyage follows Windstar’s 2026 eclipse sailings, when guests aboard Star Pride off Iceland and Wind Spirit in the Mediterranean witnessed the 12 August total solar eclipse.

Greece and Malta frame the eclipse experience

Wind Surf’s 2027 itinerary will combine the eclipse with calls across Greece, Sicily and Malta.
