AFL finals fever is taking over Waroona with the town’s favourite cow dressed up to get behind the Fremantle Dockers as they continue their fight for their first flag.

Mooriel the cow has been given a new look this month by the Waroona Visitors Centre to help cheer on and support the Dockers as they gear up for a preliminary final.

Getting behind the fun, the centre has dressed Mooriel from head-to-hoof in the Dockers colours of purple, red, white and green, including a scarf and hat.

After their thrilling win over Geelong on Friday night, the Dockers head to Sydney to face the Swans for a grand final berth and a chance to make history.

Horse riders and cyclists took to the streets in Harvey at the weekend in a bid to share an important road safety message.

On Saturday, Harvey hosted its first Pass Wide and Slow Event, an international initiative reminding motorists to keep to a 2m distance and a 20km/h speed limit when passing cyclists and horse riders on the road.

The Harvey community is being encouraged to get involved in the library’s latest project, helping to create a memorial display for Remembrance Day in November.

To help create the community-made display, the Harvey library is collecting knitted and crochet poppies with about 500 received so far.

Being told your child has cancer is the news no parent wants to hear, but that is what Harvey mum Andrea Picks was told when doctors diagnosed her 18-month-old daughter Leia with leukaemia in 2023.

While Leia has been cancer free for almost 12 months, Ms Picks will now be shaving her hair on September 4, World Leukaemia Day, to raise money for the Leukaemia Foundation.

Throughout August, the Brunswick Community Resource Centre will raise money for charity Toby For Childhood Cancer, all while celebrating a century of Winnie The Pooh.
