Families and friends gathered to celebrate harmony and culture as the South West Indian Group celebrated the 14th edition of Diwali celebrations.

Diwali is a major Indian festival symbolising the victory of light over darkness and good over evil.

A Dhol Tasha performance — a traditional rhythmic ensemble with various drums — opened the festivities and set the tone for the evening.

The events that followed consisted of bright colours, soulful music and captivating storytelling.

🚨BREAKING🚨City of Bunbury mayor Jaysen Miguel has been handed another term at the helm, securing almost 4000 first preference votes.

While the final numbers are still being confirmed, tonight’s local government election saw Mr Miguel beat candidates Gabi Ghasseb, who secured more than 1800 first preference votes, and Michelle Steck, who had a little more than 1100 first preference votes.

The result is waiting on official confirmation from the WA Electoral Commission and about 7000 ballots were returned. It gives Mr Miguel a second term, after first being elected into the top job in 2021
