A CHARMING EVENING WITH OPERA

World-renowned Tenor Juan Diego Flórez charmed a full house Sydney Opera House in his Sunday’s debut recital in Sydney. The exuberant audience on standing ovation given to the Peruvian artist almost did not want to leave , sustaining cheerful applause and shouts of “bravo”. They were treated to almost more than half an hour encore performances capping a 2-hour renditions of some of the world’s loved opera pieces by Flórez who also serenaded the audience by playing classical guitar while he sang.

I specially liked the dynamics of his musical performance. His staccato and legato left me almost mesmerised. His naturally smooth movements and stage presence connected high culture to everyone making even first time opera music listeners fall in love with this music genre. Being in the room with this charismatic classical vocalist makes one experience and understand why BBC regards Juan Diego Flórez as one of the finest tenors of all time.

I am also amazed by highly-skilled pianist Cécile Restier who performed with Juan Diego Flórez with her fabulous accompaniment and solo renditions as well. Overall, it was a heartwarming evening, flowing from the duo and coupled with the positive vibe from the many Spanish speaking members of the audience. It’s a musical rendezvous worth having more than just once.
