The bamboo camper is finished!!!!!
I'm celebrating by driving it deep into the rainforest and camping under the stars ✨
I've been building this for months, exploring the traditional craft of bamboo joinery and learning so many new skills. There's been some ups and downs navigating using a natural material on the back of a moving vehicle, but it worked! And I feel so proud! This is the first of many camping adventures to come more on our latest YouTube episode

Alone in the rainforest with nothing but my hand built bamboo camper, I’m off road camping for a few nights in the hot Australian summer. I cook festive meals, explore meadows, rainforests and rivers, and wild camp in the beautiful countryside

Exploring waterfalls with my duck, obviously

Here’s just a little bit of our story ~ we are sisters (Julia and Anastasia 🦋) and we live deep in the Australian rainforest with our mum and our many animal friends. It’s just the three of us and sometimes life off grid and alone can be challenging. But this journey of learning to live with the land, to grow our own food and find a way of being that lets us exist in harmony with the earth has been incredible to say the least. Sometimes you’ll find us swimming under a waterfall with our duck and sometimes you’ll find us gently wrangling giant pythons out of the house, but we are so grateful for it all 🐍🌞 we are incredibly lucky that we get to share all the ups and downs with you here (and over on YouTube!) and love this big community of earth lovers 💚🌱🌝 without you, we never would have been able to tell our story, write a book and realise that there are so many likeminded friends all around the globe that care for the earth and hope for a regenerative future in the same way that we do. Lots of love from Julia, Anastasia our mum and all the animals 🐐🐥🦆

There is so much meaning in using your hands to build something from scratch. 🪚🥹 Watching this tiny bamboo camper materialise from nothing but my imagination and some invasive bamboo harvested from the side of the road - has been such an incredible learning journey. These old crafts of splitting bamboo, making pins and carefully attaching each piece feels like a lost art, and in each new blister that forms on my hands I sense a new skill remembered. 🧡

6. All the dragonflies have woken and I feel like a fairy

More progress on the bamboo tiny truck build 🐛🪚🌝 a diy outdoor kitchen! Being a small woman with not much strength, I always struggle with the physical parts of living on the land. But this is another reason why bamboo has proved to be such a cool natural building material! It’s so much lighter than any other wood, and normally I couldn’t dream of harvesting my own beams straight from the forest and transporting them home with so much ease.

The plight of the red cedar is just another reminder of the devastating impact of colonisation and the extractive systems that value profit over this incredible natural world that we are so lucky to live in. This rainforest was once 75,000 hectares and now, only tiny pockets remain. We are so grateful as we tend to these giants of the rainforest and watch them begin to fill the canopy with their magical colours once again. 🌱 This is the land of the Arakwal and Minjumbal People of the Bundjalung Nation, we pay our respects to the Traditional Custodians of the Country we live on and recognise their continuing connection to land and waters. We thank them for protecting this rainforest and its ecosystems since time immemorial, vowing always to be students to this land and its peoples 💚

The earth is dry; it is waiting.
When the first storms come, everything resets in a magnificent rebirth of the land. Hidden seeds show themselves, awakening with the rain. Our minds are a spring landscape too-with water and sun, gratitude and understanding, we feel a colorful garden blossom into life. Everything starts from a small seed, even the largest trees and the most-beautiful flowers—it all begins below the soil, waiting for the perfect time to sprout. Our own hopeful seeds of knowledge and intuition rest just below the surface, hungry for growth, but calm in the stillness. 🪷

The garden is an amazing teacher. It teaches us patience, it teaches us care, it teaches us resilience and growth and wilt. It teaches us to love the sun and the rain. Mostly it teaches us to tend to the garden of ourselves. To balance growth and rest, to spread seeds, to grow deep roots and give our fruit outwards to the world 🌛 scenes of growing, harvesting and cooking from our latest video 💛

The art of noticing ✨🌀 Creativity is the biggest teacher - on how to view the world, on how to really slow down and see the beauty all around us. Days like these spent in our rainforest studio allow us to truly be present. The creative act is not about the final product at all, it’s about the time spent making, and the feeling of using your hands 🦋 ~ moments and thoughts from our latest video 🌝🌝🌝
