Stockas burnouts, who is piloted by the trepidatious youthful exuberance that is Matt Storer, has come out throwing quite the tantrum this year at NQ Burnouts. But let’s put that in perspective…
Matty has one of those friendly semi-eternal mischievous grins on his face that, after a while, you have to wonder what is driving it. But it’s after things go sour on the pad that you see the temporary serious side of this redhead come topsides, and that is when you see that when it comes time for business, It’s game-on!
There’s not much room for FA in Matt’s performance. It’s all turned into FO this season. More perspective…
When it comes to competitive Burnouts, by his own admission, Matt has spent his time over the last few years in FA mode, expecting a 1st place on the podium to just fall in his lap some time. Evidently that never came into being… Until Round 2. He actually decided to make the concerted effort to deliberately put himself there this year, and has noticeably come out swinging.
I noticed during editing that his car has lost a lot of roll during certain moves this year and he was keeping his shape a lot better in his turns. Asking about his suspension I was a little perplexed, a lot if I’m honest, when he said that among other mods, he had removed his sway bar to use on another car.
It didn’t make sense to me because coming out of a turn he had much less body roll than last season, when he’d bog down in sharp moves, due to the car going nose down on one of the front tyres due to weight shift, and/or braking as required.
Then he added that Shane Millington had put his help into the Cambering up front, and in hindsight is very reminiscent of , and once I had another look at the video to confirm it, I wondered how I missed it to begin with. Looks tuff too! But it totally balanced my understanding why Matty looks like a new beast out there this year.
He’s taken a few knocks this year right in the Falcon, the transmission specifically, but given the attitude, dare I say mentality he has set to achieving Top Dog status this year, he ain’t playin. No more FA. Not anymore.
If you want to know character, he came out to do his final skid after Bec in Minge, and if you know what happened to her, when Stockas came to the line, Matty looked through the windscreen of his Falcon and straight at me in the eyes from the driver’s seat through his helmet. At the same time he raised his hands and eyebrows with a question in his eyes as if to say, “What about ME?’… I had to laugh. I think he was serious!
