📣 Applications for the 2026 Red Room Poetry Fellowship are now open!

Established in 2017 to foster the poetic and professional development of contemporary Australian poets. In 2026, in partnership with Varuna, The National Writers' House , and thanks to our generous program supporters, Bret Walker AO SC, Tim Game SC and The Adès Family Foundation, the program will support six previously commissioned Red Room poets to develop their practice.

Through a competitive, selective process, Fellows will receive a stipend, mentorship and publication opportunities as part of Poetry Month in August 2026. They will also have a dedicated week to write. Five Fellows will be in residence onsite at Varuna — on Dharug and Gundungurra Country in the Blue Mountains (Katoomba) — and the Anywhere Remote Fellow will undertake their residency remotely.
