Verdict

The Maple Bacon is a simple burger that doesn't try to reinvent the wheel and sometimes that's exactly what you want. Before starting Burger Patrol, this was one of my favourite burgers in Cairns, so I went in with pretty high expectations.

As always though, I can only review the burger that's put in front of me on the day. Every venue can have the occasional off day or not quite hitting the mark perfectly everytime, and that's part of keeping these reviews fair.

Compared to previous visits, this one felt a little under-seasoned and the signature maple flavour that normally makes this burger stand out just wasn't as prominent as I remembered. Not a massive issue and super simple to fix!

That said, it's still a tasty burger with a good balance of flavours, an easy burger to eat, and represents solid value for money. There's plenty of sauce and mayo, the pickles are delicious and tangy and the bun is well toasted and soft.

It may not have hit the heights I remembered this time around, but it's still a burger I'd happily order again.

🟢 Worth the Stop 🟢

Verdict

This has been one of the most recommended burgers we've had suggested, both in the comments and in our DMs, and thankfully it didn't disappoint!

When we spoke to Aaron from Smok 'N' Steel, we asked for his recommendation. Without hesitation he suggested the Brisket Burger with salad and garlic aioli... and he absolutely nailed it.

The fresh lettuce, tomato and onion are a must. They cut through the richness of the beautifully seasoned, smoky brisket and stop the burger from becoming too heavy.

The garlic aioli adds another layer of flavour and moisture, tying everything together nicely.
The only downside is that this burger is messy. Very messy. It probably didn't help that we forgot to grab napkins, but this definitely isn't a first-date burger!

Overall, it's a delicious burger that delivers exactly what you'd hope for.

One piece of advice? Definitely order it with the salad!

Verdict

This one sits in a bit of an awkward spot.
It's not a bad burger... but it never really gets going.
One thing that surprised us was that the beef patties appeared to be commercially produced rather than what we'd expected from the menu description. They were cooked well enough, but had that dense texture often associated with supermarket style patties rather than a freshly made, hand formed burger.

The brioche bun was decent, although a small amount of tomato sauce underneath quickly soaked into the base and left it a little soggy.

The biggest issue, however, was the mustard. There was way too much of it, and it overpowered almost every other flavour in the burger.

At $18, it's not an expensive burger, but with a few tweaks, particularly to the patties and the balance of sauces... it could be a much stronger offering.

As it stands, this lands in our Caution Zone. It's certainly edible, but there are plenty of stronger burgers around Cairns at a similar price point.

Verdict

Some may say that less is more...
I've even said it myself in previous reviews.
Looking at the ingredient list, you could easily assume this burger is trying to do too much: 100% local grass-fed smash beef, crunchy peanut butter, double American cheese, seared pineapple, Canadian maple syrup, Crown Sauce and crispy bacon.

On paper, it sounds like chaos.
In reality? It's fantastic!

The sweet, salty, savoury and umami flavours all collide in a way that somehow works perfectly. Every bite delivers something different, yet nothing overpowers the next.
The peanut butter adds richness without becoming overwhelming, while the pineapple and maple syrup provide just enough sweetness to balance the salty bacon and beautifully seasoned smash patty.

This is one of those burgers that shouldn't work...
But absolutely does.

It's bold, memorable and unlike anything else we've reviewed so far.

If you're looking for a safe burger, this isn't it.
If you're looking for one of the most unique burgers in Cairns, you've just found it.

Verdict:

Sometimes the simplest burgers are the hardest to get right.

Thankfully, Jimmy's Classic Burger gets most of the fundamentals spot on.

The bun was incredibly fresh, soft and enjoyable to eat. The only minor criticism was that it wasn't toasted, which meant it became slightly soggy as the burger went on. Fortunately, the quality and freshness of the bread more than made up for it.

The smashed beef patty was seasoned well and delivered plenty of flavour without trying to be overly complicated.

The fresh salad components added crunch and balance, while the overall build made for an easy burger to pick up and enjoy.

There are no fancy tricks here. No gimmicks.

Just a well-executed classic burger that focuses on getting the basics right.

Simple? Absolutely. Delicious? Definitely.

A solid effort from Jimmy's Burgers and one we'd happily come back for.
