A SECRET CRUSH

I Didn't Know He Loves Me

Final Episode

We met in the university, two young souls bound by laughter, friendship, and endless late night talks. He carried my worries, held up my stumble, who loved me in silence while I mistook it for simple kindness.

After reading his letter, I wept that night, clutching the paper as if my tears could rewrite time but Life went on, though my heart carried an ache I could never confess.

Years later, fate played its cruel game. I saw him again at a conference, dressed in a simple suit, older but still carrying that same calm presence. His smile froze the moment our eyes met.

We talked, politely, like two old friends. But when our hands brushed while reaching for a book, something felt like a electric surge through me. I felt uncontrollable chemistry in in. His eyes softened, just like before, but now filled with a sorrow I finally understood.

He whispered quietly, almost too soft to hear:
“If only you knew back then.”

My lips trembled, my heart raced as if I ran for an hour, but I forced a smile. The words pressed against my chest, desperate to escape“I love you too.” But I swallowed them, because they had no place in the life I had chosen.

When he turned to leave, I watched him walk away, carrying with him the piece of my heart I had only just discovered.

And under my breath, tears threatening to fall, I whispered one last time:
“I didn’t know he loves me… until it was far too late.”

To even breath and take a step, I sang to the air
"We met again, but time was cruel,
A broken heart obeying rules.
The love we lost was never gone,
Yet bound by vows, I must move on.

If fate rewrote the page for me,
I’d choose the love I failed to see.
But now our story fades to night,
Two souls apart, though hearts unite

End.

A SECRET CRUSH

Episode 2

I Didn't Know He Loves Me

It was a week later, while arranging my old university books, that I found a folded letter tucked between the pages of a notebook he once lent me. My hands trembled as I opened it. The letter read;

“If you ever find this, it means fate wanted you to know.
I love you. I have always loved you since the first day you walked into class with that sparkling smile that made the whole dark room shineth. I never told you, because your happiness mattered more than my confession. I’d rather stand beside you in silence than lose you to rejection.

I know you may never love me the way I love you, but I wanted you to know—you were my reason, my anchor, my dream. And even if you belong to another now, in my heart, you will always be there.”*

The words blurred through my tears. My chest tightened as I clutched the paper, rocking in silence. How blind I had been, how cruel time was. If only I can turn back time to hear words that became too difficult to speak.

With a broken whisper, I said the words too late:
“I didn’t know he loves me… and now, he’ll never know I love him too."

As I was briefly quiet , I tried to force a smile, yet it was too hard to come by. I didn't want to use that word, had I know because I have made a choice. He could have been brave to ask or show signs, I would have done the rest. I couldn't have started it, if I did, he would have asked where is my pride as a woman. I then, whispered to the wind again;
to carry my message to his silent moment;

"Your love was written in quiet lines,
Between late walks and borrowed time.
I read too late what I should have seen,
A silent heart, where I had been.

Now vows are spoken, rings are worn,
Yet my soul feels both love and mourn.
For in your silence, you gave me all,
And I never heard your secret call.

A SECRET CRUSH

I Didn't Know He Loves Me

Then, one evening, as the sun melted into the horizon, he approached me where I stood outside my faculty, laughing with a guy. His smile faltered, but he quickly masked it. At that moment, something flickered in my chest, I gazed at him, I didn't notice anything, so I ignored it.

When another guy asked for my heart, he stepped aside. Smiling, congratulating, even when his eyes dimmed. I thought he was just happy for me.

Months later after our graduation, I got engaged. He congratulated me with a voice too steady to be real. On my wedding day, I saw him at the far corner of the hall, clapping, smiling, and breaking inside.

It wasn’t until I overheard a course mate whisper, “He loved her all through school but never said a word,” the truth struck me. My heart ached with memories of his quiet sacrifices, of the late nights, the laughter, the care I mistook for simple friendship.

Tears blurred my vision as I whispered to myself:
“I didn’t know he loves me… and now, I can’t undo the years I was blind

He was too shy to ask, too proud to loose. I whispered to the wind to carry my poetic message to him

"You sat beside me in crowded halls,
Your silence louder than the cheers.
You gave me laughter, held my falls,
And hid your love through all the years.

I danced away, I chose another,
Blind to the fire you kept inside.
Now bound by vows, I call you lover
Only in dreams where hearts collide.
