The last spot you’d expect to see Queen Victoria is on the Gibb but this rock does resemble her head pretty well 😂

Always cool passing a road train out here too!

Let us know if you spotted this iconic rock along the Gibb River Road.

📍 Windjana Gorge Campground

We spent 2 nights here as our first stop on the Gibb (travelling East).

💰$20 per person each night
🚽 Basic toilets and showers
🐾 No dogs (national park)

It’s a great base for Windjana Gorge and Tunnel Creek, as they’re near each other and easy to do both in the one day. You can walk from the campground to the gorge, and then drive 35km to Tunnel Creek. There isn’t a huge amount of parking at Tunnel Creek so it’s best to leave the van and drive in anyway.

If you’re after a cheaper alternative, Lennard River Free Camp is a bit further away from the gorges back on the Gibb River Road, but it fills up quick so plan to arrive early! We knew we were getting in late so we thought we’d give the paid campground a go.

Windjana Gorge and Tunnel Creek are great places for croc spotting on the Gibb (usually just freshies) but there was a salty reported at Windjana when we went. The ranger arrived while we were there to determine whether it was a salty or just a really big freshie, but we never got confirmation. What do you reckon from the picture? It sure was a lot bigger than the rest of the freshies we could see 😅

This is the first or last stop on the Gibb (depending which way you’re heading) and definitely an iconic one so be sure to SAVE for your trip!

Crossing the Kimberley: 1,200km of Corrugations Begins

For the next five weeks, this outback track will become our home. We'll travel over 1,200km through one of the wildest parts of Australia, towing our caravan into places we've dreamed about reaching for years. Endless corrugations, countless waterfalls, incredible camps... and one hell of a test for both us and our setup.
