In spite of all the disinegnuous, scare tactics from the Yarra Greens Councillors and elected Greens MPs and their attacktivist groups about "ripping up protected bike lanes", I'm so glad to see a solution from Council that is community-minded and gives all stakeholders - residents, visitors, road users, pedestrians and cyclists alike - fair, safe and equal access and amenity. This is what true, independent Council representation and leadership can deliver.

$1500 in 12 months? How often are families refilling their seemingly massive (or fuel inefficient, or fleet of cars?)

No wonder we have a climate crisis!

The commute to work, taking the kids to school or sport, the family drive, or the trip to the shops will cost less under the Liberals.

During the last election, a number of residents spoke to me about their dissatisfaction around the 30km speed zones.

On face value, it may seem obvious that lower speed limits would result in fewer accidents, however Council Watch Victoria Inc has just released a research report which found that “speeds below 50 km/h do not contribute to lowering the likelihood of vulnerable users sustaining serious or fatal injuries.”

Among their recommendations is that: “all 30 km/h zones (current or in plan) are discarded, to allow the current ’50 km/h unless otherwise signed’ rule to take place in local streets.”

Not only will implementing this recommendation save significant costs in replacing signage, but it will bring Yarra in line with surrounding council’s road rules.

I’m curious to know what you think of this recommendation. 🤔

The results are in and alas, it looks like Collingwood has voted to keep a Greens politician as their representative in for now. I sincerely hope the close call makes them re-evaluate their priorities and focus on the needs of residents and ratepayers - I’ll be watching! 👀

Congratulations to all the returning and new councillors - I’m genuinely excited to see so many names I wanted to see make it into the new council and I am feeling very optimistic that Yarra will change for the better.

I’ve gained so many positives from this experience and have absolutely no regrets. And who knows what the future holds….

If you ever needed proof that every vote matters, after first preference counts it looks like only 10-15 votes separate me from Brielle Pope for Collingwood - Hoddle Ward so it will come down to preferences.

And given the way preferences are likely to flow, it looks like the Greens hold over Yarra council is coming to a close!
