REVIEW: The Bed Party - Javeenbah Theatre

A show about q***r culture and the subject of r**e is what you will find on stage at Javeenbah theatre company. While heavy and complex topics, the show tackles these subjects in a brilliantly moving manner. ‘The Bed Party’ follows a group of friends-slash-housemates as they discuss their sexualities, coming out stories, and how difficult it is to live in a world where women are freely harassed and have very little means of being able to stop it.

REVIEW:
Octopolis - Observatory Theatre Company & PIP Theatre

A heartfelt tale of love on its many levels, Octopolis, written by Marek Hornand presented by the Observatory Theatre Company in conjunction with PIP Theatre, was a raw, honest, and emotional ride that explored grief, ambition, religion, and the relationships between two humans and one octopus.

Arthur Miller’s 1953 representation of the Salem witch trials has become a bona fide classic. Public appetite for it, however, is akin to coriander – it tends to incite either strong appreciation or a grimaced dismissal. Most interacted with the text as English curriculum force fed it to them, predominantly inciting disinterest from student cohorts who were tasked with robotically listing its themes and reciting sterile commentary on how these themes still have relevance today. As these students set about completing their 1200 word essays, it was easy for them to miss the brutal force of what this play has to say.
