I’ll never forget when my dear son was in this situation…

i’ll never forget those days.

the wires wrapped around a body so small my brain couldn’t even process it.
machines glowing at all hours, like time didn’t exist in there.
how it could be dead quiet… while everything in me felt loud.

and there you were.
my baby.
so tiny. so breakable.
working for every breath like it wasn’t promised.

that image didn’t fade. it settled.
the nicu does something to you you don’t really explain out loud.
it takes the version of you that walked in… and quietly rearranges it.
you leave softer in some places, harder in others.
grateful in a way that aches.

you don’t come out the same.

you just learn how to live with what it left behind.
