Krystal Hille changed my thinking on how to write a book.

You know you can get all the information you want from a prompt. But what most readers are looking for from a book is help interpreting their own experience.

Krystal is the founder of Hille House Publishing in Brisbane, a book mentor and the author of The Aligned Author. She helps experienced professionals write the book only they could write.

Her path to publishing makes sense once you hear it.

She spent about seven years as a theatre director, helping actors find a character through the body. She later worked in embodiment and Ta**ra coaching. Today, she listens to authors in a similar way.

She notices the breath. The pause. The point where someone leaves the polished answer and reaches the story that carries something real.

I use AI all day, every day for a range of tasks. It's good at giving me a first draft, arranging ideas and helping me smooth out the language. That's when the work begins and I find myself belting the draft until a human voice comes back.

Krystal calls that voice the "human signal".

It's the detail only you remember. The rhythm that belongs to you. The meaning you made from something you actually lived.

A machine can rearrange information, but the book only you can write begins somewhere much more personal.

The pipeline that produced people like you is narrowing. The traditional way to build deep expertise — the apprenticeships and the years spent working beside experienced practitioners — are being disrupted as AI absorbs the entry-level work that used to train the next generation.

Your experience is not only hard to replicate. The conditions that would create a replacement are deteriorating.

You are the scarce resource, and that changes how you price and what work you accept. If you want to test where you stand on this, I built a three-question diagnostic. Comment DIAGNOSTIC and it's yours.

The pipeline that produced people like you is narrowing. The old ways of building deep expertise, the apprenticeships and the years spent working beside experienced practitioners, are being disrupted as AI absorbs the entry-level work that used to train the next generation.

So your experience is not only hard to replicate. The conditions that would create a replacement are deteriorating. In plain terms, you are the scarce resource, and that changes how you price and what work you accept.

If you want to test where you stand on this, I built a three-question diagnostic for exactly that. Comment DIAGNOSTIC and it is yours.

I made a short diagnostic for experienced independent professionals who suspect their hard-won experience is not being put to its best use.

It is three questions, adapted from Seth Godin, that reveal whether your experience is being kept sharp or quietly wearing down while you stay busy. Ten minutes with a pen and you will know where you actually stand, and which one thing to change first.

If you would like it, comment DIAGNOSTIC below and I will send it straight to you.

(No charge, no pitch. It comes with The Wisepreneur, the weekly note I write on positioning experience and building practice on your own terms.)

I recorded a conversation recently with Johanna Rothman, who has run her own consulting practice since 1994 and written 21 books, including Successful Independent Consulting.

What stayed with me was how calm she is about AI. Someone told her ChatGPT could already tell people everything her books say. Her answer: yes, Chat and Claude have taken all of my books, that's fine, you can get the information, you just won't get the value I add to it.

Her value, as she puts it, is not how fast she thinks. It is how she frames a client's problem, explains it back to them, and works out the solution together. That is the part the tools cannot do.

We talked about plenty more: why she works on retainer rather than by the hour, why she plans far less than most people assume, and why the critical thinking skills younger consultants are not getting the chance to build are exactly what make experienced people valuable now.

If you are an experienced professional thinking about independent practice, or already in it, I think you will get something from this one. Link is in the first comment.

Something Alisha Hook said on the Wisepreneurs Podcast relates to all of us. She encourages professionals to map out who their career advocates are. Not just who you know, but who will speak about you with credibility when you are not in the room.

Think about that for a moment. Who in your professional world would advocate for you unprompted? Who would say, I know exactly the right person for this, and mean you?

Alisha spent 20 years in talent acquisition across Australia and the UK. She has seen how powerful those advocacy relationships are in hiring decisions. A strong recommendation from a trusted contact still carries more weight than a perfectly formatted resume.

Alisha now runs Your Career Edge, helping both employers with fractional talent needs and individuals with career coaching. Worth a listen with the link in the comments.

Here is something I learned from career coach Alisha Hook on the Wisepreneurs Podcast: the best time to get career coaching is before you need it, especially not after you have been made redundant, or worse still when you are burned out and desperate for a change. Before.

Why? Because when you are already in the scramble, your networking feels transactional and you'll end up asking rather than exchanging—reactive rather than strategic. (And it really was me who added that em-dash)

Alisha spent 20 years in talent acquisition and knows exactly what happens on the employer side when someone applies out of desperation versus when they apply from a position of clarity and preparation.

She now runs Your Career Edge, offering career coaching for individuals and fractional talent services for employers. If you are thinking about what comes next in your career, this conversation is worth your time: https://www.wisepreneurs.au/alisha-hook-career-coaching/
