📌 Macmasters Beach Track
Part of the Bouddi Coastal Walk

Sometimes the hustle of daily life leaves little room for big adventures. Thankfully, there’s a slice of paradise just 20 minutes from home—Macmasters Beach.

This serene spot marks one end of the stunning Bouddi Coastal Walk, a trail that winds along dramatic cliffs and through classic Aussie bushland.

Kick off your day with a delicious breakfast or lunch at Mac Beach Cafe, where you can enjoy your food with ocean views.

Tucked just behind the café (behind the bins!) is the lesser-known trailhead. We didn't feel the need to track the distance—just walked far enough then back to get our hearts pumping.

We’ve also explored this trail from the opposite direction, starting at Putty Beach. That route offers sweeping views of the ocean and rugged shoreline—but Macmasters brings its own quiet magic and coastal charm.

📌 Patonga to Pearl Beach Walk, Central Coast

7.6km out and back. Although the trail can be commenced from either end, it is more convenient to start from Patonga Beach, which offers ample parking spots. From Pearl Beach, the trail begins at the end of Crystal Ave, marked by a gate that leads to a fire trail. We visited this location with our little kids two years ago and deemed it a safe walk, as long as one stays on the trail. We enjoyed seeing and taking pictures of beautiful Australian flora.
Toilets available at Patonga, with Patonga Boathouse nearby for food and drinks.

📌 COORONGOOBA CAMPGROUND**

Nestled in the heart of the stunning valley, Coorongooba Campground offers a secluded escape surrounded by towering cliffs. Although tranquil, it can get busier on weekends, especially during school and public holidays.

Set up camp alongside the clear waters of the Capertee River, which is shallow and ideal for children to splash around and cool off. For adults, a short walk upstream reveals a deeper pool, perfect for a refreshing dip on hot days.

During the day, you’ll encounter a variety of friendly wildlife, including monitor lizards and, of course, plenty of wallabies.

WHERE
■ Glen Davis, NSW – Located within Wollemi National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

AMENITIES
■ Picnic tables available, so you may not need to bring your own camp table.
■ Barbecue facilities and well-maintained drop toilets (with toilet paper provided).
■ This is a self-contained campground, meaning you'll need to bring your own water and supplies.
■ No showers or powered sites, but there is a shower facility at the nearby Glen Davis Campground, just 10 minutes away. It offers hot water and clean toilets.

ADDITIONAL INFO
■ Glen Davis has a fascinating history as a booming shale oil mining town in the 1940s, with a peak population of 2,000. The town's decline followed the government's decision to shut down the unsustainable oil works, leaving the population to dwindle to just over 400.
■ Today, Glen Davis is a quiet community, and visitors can explore historical remnants like vintage stores showcasing items from the past, and the ruins of the Shale Oil Works, which can be viewed from the Glen Davis Lookout (now part of a private property).

Whether you're here for a peaceful retreat or to immerse yourself in history, Coorongooba Campground offers a memorable experience for you and your family 🤎

📌 Turon Gates Campground, NSW

Turon Gates is a family favourite. It's secluded but with all the essential amenities including hot showers, toilets and dishwashing area.

Fee can be a bit dear but it's worth it. So much fun to be had with the river being a few steps away from your tent.

Try to avoid during peak seasons as it can get crowded. Although when we stayed over New Year we still enjoyed some privacy 💚🤎

📌 Witches Glen and Pulpit Rock from Mt Piddington Car Park, Mount Victoria

Sept 2024
Though we didn’t quite reach our intended destination, the hike was unforgettable. The journey itself was both invigorating and enriching, offering stunning views and a deeper connection with nature, especially since we were the only ones on the trail.

We started at Mt Piddington Car Park with plans to visit Bushrangers Cave via Witches Glen and Pulpit Rock. However, upon reaching Pulpit Rock, we discovered that the track to Bushrangers was closed due to a landslip.

The walk wasn’t easy, especially since we veered off course early on and ended up walking along cliff sides.

The commanding views of Kanimbla Valley made every step worth it, and the slight eeriness of Witches Glen was captivating.

📌 RESOLUTE BEACH

Is a secluded beach that can only be accessed by boat or on foot via Resolute Loop Track. Touted as possibly the best secluded beach in Sydney due to light golden soft sand, clear and calm water and amazing views-- including Barrenjoey Head and Lighthouse.

Perfect for little kids, teens and parents who don't like crowded beaches.

Best enjoyed with a little picnic. There are reasonably shades areas or you can bring a tent.

WHERE ■ Kuring G*i Chase National Park, near Sydney NSW

LENGTH ■ 1km return

GRADE ■ easy, although has some exposed cliff edges so close supervision of children is required

AMENITIES ■ no showers, there are toilets at Resolute Picnic Area, 1km from West Head Lookout.

OTHER INFO ■ As the track to the beach is part of a loop, you can start the walk from Resolute Picnic area for more parking spots, however it's longer as opposed to starting from West Head Lookout.
On the way to Resolute Beach is another beautiful spot which is West Head Beach however we preferred the former as walking another 500metres means there will be less people.

Our first overnight camp in the bush and we'll do it all over again 🤎

Burra Korain Flat Campground in the Blue Mountains is a remote camp that can accommodate approximately 5 tents. The quickest way to access it is through a 4km trail from Victoria Falls Lookout.

You can enjoy Victoria Falls and a few waterholes on the way to the camp or after leaving the camp, to cool down before the arduous, steep ascent back to the carpark.
